I have some Nitron street series on on VXT

Am happy with the overall front - rear balance (mild over-steer) but the front feels too bouncy, particularly noticeable in fast corners.

 

So, I want to try increasing rebound settings (prob all round).

 

Here's the question: does clicking towards '+' to increase rebound, bump or both?

I said it was a dumb question!

 

Have seen lots of advice about settings, have googled the manual however.....

try reducing your tire pressures

That's an excellent question, and I bet 95% of people who buy these as an "upgrade" wouldn't know the answer, or how to set them up etc, or how they compare to the carefully selected OEM (Lotus specified) ones. I know I didn't when I first bought my car and it understeered quite a bit.

 

To try and answer your question, I have some very old Nitron 40 coilovers on my VX (which may differ from your NTRs), but on mine I was told (by a Nitron employee) the knob affects bump but there is a 1:2.5 ratio between bump and and rebound (so to be clear, in effect it affecting both).

 

It's quite possible to reduce eliminate the oversteer you have with subtle geo changes BTW (mainly with toe and ride height changes).

 

Over the years I think the valving on Nitrons in general has changed a bit, so I get the feeling some Nitrons XXX models are not the same as others.

Think it's 25/27 in 16"/17" Speedlines (not the fancy Mag ones) but must check/experiment

If its bouncy try putting clicks on. Bouncy = leaning on the springs too much. Dampers not doing enough damping.

No problem, JB makes a good point. Remember the springs want to keep going boing boing and the damper stops them. If you under dampen the car significantly then the springs are going to do just that. Conversely if your over damped then the springs won't be strong enough to decompress to a normal ride height and your car will gradually lower itself to the ground ;) If you wind the shocks up to full stiff, then count back the number of clicks and make notes as you do before test driving. Rule of thumb is a couple of clicks stiffer at the rear because of the weight of the engine. Then you can start to play with the settings and see what you like. Personally I wouldn't DIY it beyond playing. If you take the car to a good specialist they can set the geo and damping together for whatever sort of style you want.

So the plan: aim to replace MAF tomorrow, and then see how a couple of extra clicks feel

 

What spring rates do you have?

I was afraid someone would ask that one!  :mellow:

Dunno!

Bought secondhand awhile ago, and if I asked that information; don't know what I've done with it?

 

Will have to look up how to check for leaks

I found too many clicks on the front gave the car a high frequency bounce. It kind of looked like the front of the car skipped along as the shock absorbers were no longer absorbing due to being too stiff. If the car keeps bobbing after undulations then they are too soft i.e. they are not controlling the springs.
