Hi all,

 

The time of year is coming around for me where I am thinking about replacing my daily "run-about".  Currently have a 2017 RenaultSport Clio 220 Trophy and thinking of erm..... upgrading in the spring to the Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio (horrible name but what a stunning car :wub: )

 

I suppose maybe this is pointed a little at Graham more so than anyone else, but any experience?  Pros/cons/better alternatives in the bracket?  I have already discounted BMW as I don't like the styling at the moment.  The CLA 45 AMG shooting break is another possibility that I like (and a little cheaper!)

I work on them .we've sold over twenty of them against about 5 lower spec versions Can't really compare it as I only drive FCA cars . I think it's great the engine is epic stick it in race mode to open the exhaust and you'll be flipping the paddles just to listen to noise , the tyres as standard are not great for cold wet roads I do know that ! Or wait for the stelvio q.v. if you want to sit a bit higher

One of the circuit days lot has a black one, I'd never buy an alfa for common sense reasons but it's a fabulous looking thing!

The circuit days one has absolutely terrible paint and has broken down quite a lot. It is still a great looking thing though.

That's what keep calling it too :lol:

 

I know, but they are both a little more unusual hence the attraction of them :) going to try and drive both.  Only thing really putting me off the alfa is the torque converter gearbox  :wacko:

Don't worry about the box it's brilliant very fast and the paddles are nice to use . The brakes may feel a bit funny at first seeing as you aren't directly applying the pressure Also the front tyres have a lot of chatter on lock at parking speeds other than that it's a great drive I would still be in the audi simply because I'm an average driver and would like the year round ability of But it's a long way from a 159 or anything else they have made in the last 20 yrs just needs some development of the software

what do you mean by needing development of the software?

Only what most modern cars go through only the q.v. is quite complex ie 3 engine control units so they will tweak it all the time to iron out things like communication bugs and stuff . I would say 70 % of my work now is watching a line get to 100% or putting usb sticks in . Radios can have a 3gb operating system without map data and go through countless updates for things That's why I have the vx reminds me what a sp ....dremmel is for 😂

Interesting.  I think I will wait until later 2018 to see what happens from a reliability standpoint.  I don't anticipate them selling in huge volumes which may mean that they hold their value ok :)

I guess a relevant question would be whether this is a purchase or a lease. I would anticipate the depreciation to be quite significant.

I think in theory they shouldnt depreciate too badly based on Robins point above. The hugely positive reviews and (Im guessing) limited numbers should buck the usual Alfa trend for huge losses. Only IMO....

They will drop . Sales were strong at the start a bit like the 4c and look how cheap that's getting . Most/ all we have sold are lease . If they would limit the volume it might be different but they won't they want to go places that means selling lots

The 4C wasnt really all that though was it, according to reviews admittedly, the Quadrifoglio sounds like a much better package and has very positive reviews. Of course it will drop, just about any new car does, but i dont think the 4C can be used as a direct comparison.

Looking at 2nd hand prices the depreciation looks like around £8-10k in the first year...  I would be buying on a PCP/Hire Purchase agreement, as I put FA miles on cars these days and I'm thinking in 3/4 years it might be worth more than the balloon payment at the end as I'll only have done about 10-15k miles

 

Drove one today though.... oh my :wub: power is immense and seems unrelenting.  The driving position is spot on, and the steering feedback is very good (not a patch on the VX though ;) ).  And in race mode the sound is sublime.  A very very impressive machine and makes me not want to bother even looking at the BMWs and Mercs on offer. Unfortunately only got a short blast from Marylebone to Shepherds Bush, so hoping to get a more.... "thorough" test at some point soon.
