Vx220 N/a Misfire? Help!

Hi All,

 

I have parked the car up for the winter, but before i did this, i was noticing an intermittent Misfire when accelerating. 

 

I had the car serviced a year ago at Murray Lotus in Edinburgh who replaced my spark plugs. I am just wondering, do you think there could be water on the spark plugs causing this misfire? or could it be the coil pack? I'm not massively mechanical minded when it comes to cars. So this is where I am hoping to learn. 

 

Another thing I am worried about is that i am not getting full performance due to this issue? or is this just me getting used to the car? 

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Coil pack or water in the plug holes.

 

Take the coil out 4 10mm bolts and unplug the connector and look in the holes, any water theres your issue.

I find if I don't drive the car for a couple of weeks it has a misfire for the first couple of miles, I've always assumed it's water on the coil. Have you tried an Italian tune up ;)

Sounds like you need new spark plugs.

Maybe the plugs are operating out of range in the cold weather

We've not had a cracked head from an overtightened spark plug for a while. Just be aware that that is common on these engines.

We've not had a cracked head from an overtightened spark plug for a while. Just be aware that that is common on these engines.

Thanks for this tip as well! il be careful not to tighten too much

 you bought a VX220 !  :gayfight:  the water works its way in on a wet day through the boot grilles and runs into the engine bay and ultimately into the holes.

Of course! ha Makes sense really! hm so just dry the coil pack out if this is the reason and all should be good?

I had this on my car, checked all the coil pack etc, in the end it was a hairline crack in the spark plug and they had recently been changed. Whip them all out and check them carefully. I made sure I tightened them back with a torque wrench.

Probably just water in the plug from sitting outside. Cyl.1 tends to get it the worst..

 

If it does end up as the cylinder head (here's hoping not) I have a cheap, low mileage cyl. head available (just needs cams)

The turbo had the same problem and they designed a deflector for that. https://www.regelin-...over-turbo.html It can be altered to fit the NA iirc.
