He relocated a smalller alternator exactly there.   (from another Opel.VX model. Looked nice, small with still sufficient capacity.)

(I do hope the C38 survives on track, as I've read about numerous shaft failures on the bigger Rotrex models... As Rosssco said, till ~350; stick to the tried and tested path.)

Using a 1.3CDTI 90A alternator which is quite a lot smaller than the orginal one. You can see the adapter plate on the picture. The Rotrex is one I borrowed, as lead time for a new one is 8 weeks. Rotrex bracket is made of 10 mm thick steel. And the pulley on this one is 80mm instead of the 100mm one I will be using

Feels like hijacking someone's thread, so just one last remark. About Rotrex and breaking shafts, I heard that too. Tried to find decent info on the web and couldn't. Like how many out of total sold are affected, causes etc. Could be one or several batches with bad shafts etc. Couldn't find anything recent. Also asked the question to the local distributor and although he has a vested interest, he's also the one who has to handle any claims. His practical experience that everything is fine as long as you don't overheat the oil. The oil is important because of the traction system that is used. Should not go above 80C. They did increase the size of the oil cooler, at least for the C38. Just in case, I mounted a thermostat controlled fan behind the oil cooler (drawing in air obviously, not blowing) that switches on at around 75C and off at around 70. And added a LED to warn me when the fan is running. Also wanted to add an oil pressure switch and another LED to be able to see if there is any oil at all, as I'm a bit OCD about these things, but don't really know what the oil pressure in the Rotrex circuit is supposed to be. Quite low I expect.

What I've heard/read involved the bigger C38 models and breaking shafts... Suspected cause was the increased compressor wheel mass combined with load spikes due to bouncing of the rev limiter too much, or maybe traction control. But all hear/say.

You should create your own thread here so we can keep this topic Harrop related....

But then your relocated alternator location creates lots of room for an enlarged Harrop intake manifold. thumbsup :D

nobody wants a boat anchor engine, especially when they have a lightweight alloy z22se :P

I've just weighted a Z20LET on my bathroom scales (that pretends to be accurate to 1%). It is 37 Kg, according to your measurements the Z22SE block is 22 Kg. That's a block weight difference of 15 Kg. It would be interesting to do the same for a fully built up tall engines without ancillaries.

tall block, no ancillaries = 40Kg difference

I cannot remember who weighed them, but someone did

vxT weighs 60Kg more then the NA vx220, so probably 50Kg with fully dressed engines ?

Got a nice update from Joe and Vocky today. Bulkhead has gone! Fresh forged motor fitted, along with fully rebuilt 4.17 gearbox with quaife LSD. https:/https://i.imgur.com/8mtoN6s.jpg /i.imgur.com/Jq3BTrj.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ewVFSXg.jpg Hopefully find some time to collect the car next week and deliver it straight to the body shop!

What exhaust will you put on this? That downpipe size looks a bit small for your power goals...

Hi Frank, Initially it will stay on whats currently fitted and see what power I can achieve. It made 370 on the last motor so wasnt to far from what Im after and that was with a lot of knock due to the high compression 😣. Do you still have your tullet for sale?

I assume it's now fitted with a Tullett 2.5 mani + backbox?

That will still do for 370, but I've see a few of his 2.5 mani's crack with high power/track use.

Still have a full 3" system for sale yes. ( I have another 3" mani with a custom 2.75" downpipe on my car that fits with the crossbrace bar.  )

Its currently got a piper manifold, tullet decat silencer pipe and then a modified turbo back box. Will see how I get on with this one first but I may be in touch if its holding me back! I could maybe look to change the cams and exhaust this winter
