Has anyone got or used a Alitech or CAE style shifter in a VX220? Does anyone know of any other makes available?

They seem like a good product and a nice thing to use if they work but a bad one would be an expensive mistake.

This was "discussed" on the Farcebook forum recently (so its effectively lost, and will be brought up again).

Consensus was its def not worth it, and the VX shift is generally better than most Loti / Elises anyway..

A CAE shifter is an awesome thing to use so having one would be good. I was thinking you could make a half way house with a quick shifter and an extended gear knob, extending it enough to bring it closer but only enough to take the shift throw back to standard.

If a quick shift comes up cheap enough I might try it.

This owner has a short-shifter type arrangement. Doesn't look like its available any more though.. http://www.vx220.org...2na/?hl=shifter

Mmm I have never been 100% happy with the quality of my gear shift. I presently have a short shift and an extended gear lever which is not too bad. I would be tempted by the Alitechp were it not for the cost.

I wonder if anyone has made improvements to the standard shift remote unit. Maybe rose jointed or found a way to reduce any flex in the standard remote unit.

£1250 for a gear lever?

I expect a lot of people get poor gear shift due to not having their cables securely fixed to stop them flexing about. It's worth inspecting this first and cable tieing the cables off if you haven't already.

My experience of quick-shifter (no the super expensive on linked) is that they made the shift quality worse and slightly more recalcitrant, rather than a more direct feel as hoped. The shift in most Loti are not really any better, so.. Not all gearboxes are made equal, so perhaps the trade off from being generally robust, able to handle plenty torque, and relative cheapness comes at the expensive of ultimate shift feel. I'm sure there are methods for slight improvement (a brand new gearbox probably the best option!), but the F23 doesn't win any awards for shift feel in the Vectra or Astra..

This... most, if not all, the shift feel is down to the box in the vx220's case. Short shift mechanisms mostly ruin things, as gm boxes tend not to like being hurried. That all said, if people want to buy and try things, then all power to them.
