Thanks for your help Tony. Yep, got home fine...filled up with fuel without switching off...then in a brain fart moment switched the engine off while sitting in a traffic jam. The bloke behind wasn’t happy about having to push start me

The links I sent to you suggest that Tony could be correct in thinking “solenoid” .One of the links suggest testing it by running cable direct from battery to solenoid.
Starter motor & solenoid are under the air filter area apparently, no need to go from underneath

Knowing that I’ll probably do more harm than good if I fiddle, I’ll probably to take it to my local indie, armed with all the solenoid/yoke info, I’m sure he’ll sort it in no time...
