Hello Friends,

It has been a long while.

Need to replace rear tyres on my VXT, which I haven't had to do in a few years. Looking up the OEM product code (Potenza RE040BZ 225/45 R17 90W dot code CFE) doesn't seem to be widely available. I have standard wheels on.

Doesn't anybody know what the replacement product code is?

Thanks

Hey, talking with a Bridgey tyre engineer, the codes for changed around 2014 due to recertification. Unfortunately I only know what the front code is.

I went for Bridgestone Potenza S001 in the same size and speed rating. Better wet grip rating and commonly available. Very pleased with them so far. Still have the RE040 standard tyres on the front. I couldn't find the RE040 available for the rears at a reasonable price.

@TWJC23 do you have a part number or more specific details of the S001 you got?

Hi DJ_SL,

Yes, I bought them from Asda tyres online as cheaper than from Blackcircles but the same tyres. Fully fitted at a garage of your choice. Read lots of reviews / comments on this forum and they seem to get the vote for a similar to OEM tyre. 91 load rating so side walls not too stiff. I've hopefully put a link in below!

Yes, I'm certain you are correct. They did the RE050 then the RE070, I just went for the Potenza S001 as it was cheaper and had the best wet grip being 'A' rated. The reviews I read were more favorable for the S001. But that's just what I did after giving up trying to find RE040.

Yes, and these were replaced by S001. RE070 belongs to a difference range.

This is exactly what I've concluded. I've not found any info on specific DOT codes for the rear. is that correct? it's purely BRIDGESTONE POTENZA S001 - 225/45R17 - 91Y.

I couldn't find any DOT code info either, I ordered from the website exactly as you have quoted. I'm no tyre expert so just went for the 91Y as the speed rating was more that sufficient to be correct and the 91 load rating is close to the RE040's 90 load rating.
