Max Side Air Intakes

Good News First. This conversion will be fine with standard windows & runners. The door bar is unaffected & so is the locking mechanism.
I now have paper & CAD templates for all cuts required to produce this conversion which I’m happy to send anyone if they want to do the same. I’m also happy to supply ones for the coupe back, once it’s completed.
So far, I have spent a total of 3.5 hours on this side so far. Now that I have templates, I honestly think that it can be done in 1.5 hours per side with the rear clam off.
I’m genuinely pleased with the results, I guess everyone will have an opinion, which is the way it should be! So no problems if anyone thinks it’s hideous or just sh1t, I’m ok with that!
The photos below show progress this evening. It looks a nice conversion, Because it’s in keeping with the car’s design.

Not sure the fixings will hold up beyond 120mph - you really need genuine DUCK tape for those kind of speed. I've heard the Lotus boys use Gorilla Glue Cloth but frankly it's twice the price and does the same job. You pays your money...

If you take your floor pan + "diffuser" off under the engine you'll get a massive cooling effect, and IME it make next to no difference to aerodynamics at the sorts of speed one does on track. Also a 6 Kg weight reduction (at the rear where it's important). Worth considering?

Nev,
I have noted that you have mentioned this on a few occasions. I’m considering getting rid of my rear diffuser as I run my car quite high & I don’t think it does jack. If I do, I may ditch my large rear tray.

Yep, even flat out for 1 minute at 6 to 8,000 RPM my water temps stay below 92 degrees, and thats when making 400 to 520 HP roughly, so tons and tons of heat.
I went round Llandow in the summer, which Im sure you know is a tiny track, so speeds barely touch 100 MPH and you get limited ram effect on the rads. But even there my water temps didn't get above 90 - which really surprised me. I only have the Pro-alloy rad and pre-rad same as everyone else.
Getting a scoop on the front/top of the roof feeding air to the engine has got to help too.
HTH & GL.

This would greatly simplify the conversion & look more cohesive. I also intend to lose the side pods in favour of a more standard NA look. The new area for the air to enter the engine bay will have more than doubled.

It reminds me this :

Even though I honestly have not checked to see what people have done in the past, my solution was born out of the need to produce a simple effective solution that looked like a factory design detail. It would have been easy to graft on a roof scoop or snorkel? Lol.
That said, rarely does someone come out with a brand new idea. I have not! But, this solution is relatively cheap, easy to modify and functional plus I think it suits the car.

Not entirely sold by the look, but well done for trying something new. Do the windows still wind down?
