Wing vent & sill update:

I finally got the wing vents formed. It was a little more involved than expected. Because the front wheel arches were pulled out by 35mm, the front of the sill obviously would not extend to meet the newly located front wheel arches. To compound matters, the front of the old external sills flared out close to the front arch. So, first I had to get rid of that small flare in the sill by cutting it on the bend and then setting it straight. I then had to cut the sill further back, in a similar way to the rear of the sill so that they flared to meet the arch at the correct angle.

Then, the awkward area, just below my old front wing vent was also cut out to now form a bigger wing vent, the height of the door scoop. It looks far better now.

All the original fixings for the front clam are retained so that I can utilise them again to refit the wider clam as per the original clam.

Is that an anvil? You setting up a trap to crush a road runner?

Nice work BTW, it's going to look ace when it's completed.

I’ve only just got back, so I won’t get much done on the Buttresses.

Yeah, a friend’s dad died last year and I acquired all sorts of garage stuff which was going to be turned out. That little anvil (I also have a big one) has been useful to straighten the beads. I also used it for bending and tapping all the tight corners. I guess after this, it will sit in the garage until I cop it. But my son won’t even know what an anvil for! Ah, the youth of today..😆

This transformation is turning out to be a full scale re-model of all the panels. It’s quite nice to get into the man cave, crank up the music, Jason Mraz this evening and make noise with a hammer and grinder, which reminds me, I need more discs.... thank god for Amazon prime.

I’m sure each person would morph their car into something different from what I’m doing. I think I prefer the look of the none coupe version of what I’m hoping to do. But, for the track,
It’ll be a coupe.

One things for sure, several VX owners have got their Dremels out and are planning conversions. Two Audi based.

Have you thought about grafting something onto your Caterham? Perhaps a Scammel front end? 😂

Lol Thanks anyway!

Perhaps Vauxhall will reinvent a new VX220 in the future!

Fortunately I am constrained by race regulations so the only mods I can do are to myself 😄

I followed a new shape Civic yesterday and that's got quite angular rear grilles in the bumper - might be another option to add to your list.

Update (revised air intake, door & rear wing):

I haven’t really liked the air scoop since I pulled out the rear wings. It made the air intake way too big. After scratching my head, I had another cunning plan, so I got to work with the glue gun, paper and scissors.

You may need to squint a bit to appreciate what I'm trying to achieve and it's a bit Blue Peter again.

The new lower rear area in front of the wheel will need tweaking as well as the rear wing curvature where it meets the door.

I would appreciate any comments on what you think of the revised side look. I don’t mind any negative comments or your thoughts. I need to crack on and stop tinkering!!!

Is just wondering, if you change that much on thé car. How do the handeling go with thé aerodynamica?
It's possible you build a car that is not good to drive over thé 60mh

I think it looks a bit odd now. Could just be the colour contrast but to my eyes the new rear shape throws the symmetry out.

I guess it's hard to identify the creases with paper stuck on. But, essentially, the rear wing top Inner creases remain unchanged. The outer rear wing edge remains unchanged too, except for forwardmost 250mm which will blend to the location of the wider door line.

I'll take the Blue Peter paper off to reveal the edge beads, then take photos and upload them. It may be easier to see what's happening that way.

....As for how all the changes will alter the car's aerodynamics. The truth is, I just don't know. I suspect the width will increase the forward facing surface area and therefore have a slightly adverse effect on speed along a straight? The coupe back may help that situation though. But overall, Ive no idea.

You think you can photoshop the orange over a full side picture of the car like you did the last one?
I think that would give us a good impression of where this is going.
