Minor update:
Due to work, I have not had a chance to do much on the front. So, just a small update on what I’ve done in the last 2 hours.
As you know, Joe kindly pointed out that the pieced together front I posted not long ago looked less than perfect, thanks Joe!
Guys, cutting up any plastic bumper is SO easy. I can’t believe that no one on here has just cut & welded the plastic together from another car to fit the VX. Making the front bumper was fun! Just use a hot air gun, soldering Iron & Stanley knife! The plywood base is a must though! Any holes can be plugged with offcuts of bumper! Bonus!
So, I started piecing together the cut up A4 bumper into one modified bumper, which will allow a good mould to be made. As I have had a few people mention that they may like to revamp their VX with my modified front, I have had to reset the headlights so that they will be road legal. In doing so however, it has created far more work than I originally intended. It has meant that the car will be almost 50mm longer in the front. The main issue being the bonnet. In order to make the creases on the bonnet not meet the middle of the headlight, I will now have to cut the bonnet along the black line shown in the photo to the inside edge of the headlight. The curvature from the wing will have to be lifted & remade to the new cut line. The front edge of the bonnet will extended & a new front bonnet curve re-made to align with the headlights, but still forming a ‘V’ in the middle.
The plastic bumper also works well on the VX wheel arches. By keeping the strengthener behind the arch & removing a 15mm section of the front fibreglass skin, the new plastic bumper can be fixed & glued with very little making good. Even the lower bulge is easy to merge into the arch.
Next, I want to make a mould of the cut down grill surround to look more like the VX opening again. I will probably fit Audi air intake vents but modify them slightly.
Finally, my old splitter now looks pants with the new front end. I may possibly buy the one shown in the photo below and modify it to fit the modified Audi/VX bumper and then make a mould of it. It will hopefully have a similar affect to a plywood one?
