.
Guys, has anyone used their hollow sills to channel air back into the engine bay? I was amazed at how much space there is. They are just hollow tubes that go front to back. Now that Ive cut scoops in the rear sides for my intakes, it's all accessible and doable. Just a thought for anyone wanting another cooling option.

The airflow can be significant, ok not for cooling but the Lotus cup boys used the sills to feed an unofficial kind of ram air intake. It was so effective it was banned in their race series.

That's interesting!

just remember that the vx220 has two pieces of foam which block the sill on each side, so unless you remove them there will not be any flow

The white one is thin and easily removable.

The black one is a big one.

I now have easy access to both foams and can remove them from the sills as I’ve opened up the rear lower area. I presume the foam is there to stop damage from minor side impacts?

Spotted a Audi A3 (18plate ) today with a similar light cluster might be a bit smaller if you have clearance issues

It does look slightly smaller and could well be a better option than the A4's headlights. The Audi TT's & later A5 lights could possibly also be good candidates. I chose the A4 front end for a number of reasons, but didn't even consider the headlights fouling on the wheel!

My reasons were.

1. My friend had one which I could measure up & evaluate without being nicked doing it on someone's car in a public car park.
2. I really like the noticeable slash in the headlight & the daytime running lights.
3. The bumper needed to be big enough to allow it to be cut down to form a usable bumper that would fit the VX's front. I.e. I knew where I could cut down the bumper to retain the bumpers creases & lines etc.
4. There seemed to be a lot more reasonably priced & readily available A4 parts on eBay. Clearly a lot of rep cars with knob drivers around.

I had a chance yesterday evening to pull the car out of the garage as I had to get my petrol chipper out from the back. The proportions of the front & side conversion looks good from all angles from a distance, so I'm pleased so far. I just need to make time to get the bonnet, side scoop & wing vent fibreglassing & bumper prep work finished by the end of the weekend, as I want to crack on with the back.

The only area that to my eye still looks wrong, is the front track which still looks too narrow. The front wings are rather flat sided in profile. I may try and purchurce a set of Mini Cooper plastic wheel arches trims & sills to heat, cut and weld them to fit the VX and therefore give the appearance of a wider front track with some wheel spacers. Keeping them in black may also help disguise & distract the eye.

I'm also not going to fit a big wing initially at least. But, I may try to improve rear downforce with other options if I feel that the back is not planted enough in high speed turns.

Was wondering that too. The A3 lights look a bit smaller and are maybe better suited to the VX proportions??

Sometimes when you buy items, you're shocked at how expensive they cost for what they are. Not me today, I just opened these brand new Seat Leon Electric folding LED door mirrors. Both for £121.50 including delivery. They look great on my Audivaux, luv em! They're not too big, not too small & suit the new looks rather well.

TT's look a lot better than they used to! I'm even finding Fiona Bruce attractive these days.... 😜

As for a Europa (It won't look like one when the rear is done!) I'm not intending to go through all the hassle of getting a new car into a track warrior.

So far Ive only spent around 14 hours, but, when I get bored, I'll pass it along to be done. There's nothing wrong in wanting a tidy looking car.

As for the headlights. Perhaps in hindsight, A3 lights & bumper may have been a better (I have not accessed the possibilities). However, the A4 headlights in my photos have huge gaps (20-30mm) all the way around them, which was purposely done. These gaps will be zero with no black visible when completed. All Audi A4's don't show any black around the edges either, so it will look much smaller when finished.

I was asked to show a VX headlight next to the Audi A4 unit. I was surprised! Make your minds up if the A4 one is too big. I made a rubbing of each.

Rather than guessing if the wheel will hit the headlight just fit a arch liner and see :)
