I like the back end the way it is now but reckon you need to work with an angular shape rather than the round lights. Is there nothing available that fits or almost fits the light gap now.

If you knew my car prior to the work, you would know that I had cut several grills into the back to expel heat from the engine bay and exhaust.

My car is a track car only. It’s sole purpose is purely for fun and it’s trailered everywhere. I always planned to have grills in the back as heat build up reduces track time. However, a good compromise may be to use the light apertures with recessed lights. I will be getting a large volume of air coming into the engine bay. I don’t want to have a parachute behind me if the air is backed up due to no vents.

Ultimately, you could fit many different lights and just modify the bodywork.

Seat Leon door mirrors fitted:

Not a lot done today apart from fitting door mirrors.

They looked big before, but now I think they look fine.

They will also have Working turn indicators and Electric adjustment. I used to hate being harnessed up in the car, only to find that someone had knocked a mirror.

I accept that it does look TT’ish from some angles. But, when I’m using Audi body parts, that’s always going to be the case.

This bodywork change is being scrutinised against the original VX. I fully expected it to be and rightly so. But, what if the Original VX looked like my car now, and I modified it to look like the current VX? I wonder when scrutinised, how many would think it looked worse?

Change is inevitable, and when you consider that cars like this....

Are designed and built by multi billion pound companies and signed off, by management and board members, who clearly must think it looks well designed and will sell. WTF? Perhaps they should have used Audi body parts! 😂

At least we didn't (officialy) get this beauty on this side of the pond..

01_Pontiac_Aztek.jpg

:D

Kidding aside..

K1 Attack did the 'round lights in square aperture' the opposite direction of Ferrari, so downward cutout instead of the fezza 'popup' style:

Either can work IMHO..

Bye, Arno.

Blimey, that red car is fugly. Not seen that beauty before!

Arno, cheers. I think I will try out a F 430 style option first.

So, I’ve done F all today as I went food shopping (nice!) and then took the dogs out for a long, very wet walk.

Took a few photos of the trailer lights popped into the rear light apertures. To be honest, it looks acceptable. Although I may try F430 style.

I made a roof intake. I’m Not sure? What do you think? It will be made in CF separately if I do make it.

I also propped up my rear wing to see if I should reuse it or not?

Finally, as I need to make a proper secure and well fitted rear and front clam, plus the front bumper, which will be separate. I had to come up with a strong but light way of securing and fitting the clams & bumper. I wanted them to be easy to remove and bolted down using proper fixings.

Again, using sh1t I have laying around, I’m going to make Carbon fibre tubular brackets with built in stainless steel captive plates and bolts.

So, cutting of lightweight steel strapping from the roll, which really holds its shape well. You just slip over lightweight foam 15mm pipe insulation. Then bolt strong Stainless steel brackets on to the strap ends part way up under the pipe insulation. All the of cuts of Carbon fibre will be resin wrapped around the foam pipe insulation and fixings forming a super strong light tube that the clams will be fitted to. This will then be fitted to location points on the car.

I could possibly make one continuous pipe insulated frame for the front bumper to fit to, including the crash box. This may also provide better impact protection.

One of the VX guys from FB mentioned that the roof intake should funnel down to the full width of the panel in between the engine lid grills and he’s right! It would look far better and more cohesive. I will change it tomorrow.

Nice.

have you considered extending it all the way to the front, like this one?

I still don’t like the roof intake I’ve done. It looks awkward and is too prominent. It would obviously be rounded off during the filling/sanding stage, but it looks wrong as it stands now.

I may try to reduce the height of the sides at the roof and change the curvature of the side profiles. It looks like a cereal box on top at the moment.

The funnel shape doesn’t help. To be honest, I’m not sure I’ll need it with the huge side intakes and the likely air that will flow through them?

Not sure if I have the drive to make a roof mould as well. I have enough in my plate now! 😂The roof intake was going to be an additional mould anyway, so I can come back to it later. But I will give it one more attempt before I give up.

Both chris_uk and Lee have the roof scoop, with heat shielded boxed in air filter compartment, and reported lower intake temps.

Easier win then water injection.

Lol, it obviously needs cutting at an angle once the whole thing has been CF’d to allow the lid to open. No point in creating it in two Separate pieces now.

OMG! I am fed up of this roof air intake. I know I said that the last (3rd) attempt was would be my last. I know that if I didn’t give it one more try, I’d just scrap it altogether.

I’ve tried Smiley’s idea of extending it to the windscreen. This is it, honest opinions please. Which one???
