Hi, Having recently purchased my 2.2 NA, I'd like to know if there's some kind of guide to changing the oil filter.

Having had a trawl through the forum I see there's comments about getting the filter to seal properly. I know where the oil filter is, but perhaps someone could tell me anything that I need to be aware of or prepare for?

Any help/comments gratefully received. ..Martin.

Our Z22SE has an oilcooler which a regular Z22SE from an astra or vectra does not have.

Normally no biggie, but we have run out of maintenance parts specifically for that.

Normally when you bought an oil filter kit for an NA VX, you would get a filter and an o-ring.
Here is a sample of the generic Z22SE filter that fits, but which comes with an o-ring that does not specifically fit our filter cap.

If the old oring is still fine, you can re-use it.

That is the easy oil filter change, where you can unscrew just the aluminum oil filter cap change the filter and be done. (put it back with 25nm)

Then there is the oil filter change from hell, where a previous owner or mechanic may have run into leaking issues, and used a lot of force on the cap (way more then 25nm) to tighten it.

When that happens, potentially the green o-ring seal can get damaged, and the 2 seals that are in between the oil cooler ring attached to the construction.
The 2 black rings you see here.

These black rings are no longer for sale with Vauxhall either, and you need aftermarket ones.

So best case scenario is a 5 pound oil filter.

Worst case scenario is also a new green o-ring, and 2 new black rings.

You can get them here:

Can anyone comment that went through the oil change from hell:

- Can the housing with the oil cooler ring be put back without the special tool?
- How much torque does that housing part with the 2 black rings need?

I can sort you out the 2 ring seals, they are £10 a pair delivered..

If you undo the cap you may get away with just the cap coming out, but more likely than not it will take the oil cooler sandwich ring out with it..

I have done it on my car before with success, as long as the metal rings are not bent you can apply some high temp gasket sealant on them and put them back in.. they will seal but its more of a worst case scenario..

You should replace the o ring, but i think i still have the original one in my engine and it never leaks.

Thanks for the info Chris, but I've already ordered the gaskets and 'O' rings from elsewhere. If I need some more later on, perhaps I can get back to you.

Thanks. Martin.

My cooler ring is going loose every time when I change the filter.

I'm tighten it by hand with the 32 size key and no leakage until now

125nm or something daft on the oil cooler sleeve, then 25nm on the cap iirc.
