OK, i lied to the missus when i said she would find the car as easy to drive as her Micra (which i then sold), and putting a car seat in would be a doddle :groupjump: I have tried our car seat, but when fitted, i can't get into 2nd gear as the seat blocks the gear change has anyone fitted a baby seat, and if so, can you change gear ok

I'm not sure you're strictly supposed to fit a baby seat to the car? It doesn't have an airbag so you're ok on that front but I'm pretty sure Vauxhall don't 'recommend' using one? On the oither hand I can't see how it would be that much of an issue. Ethan's not been in mine yet (I don't really know why tbh).

I looked on the Vaux'l www and they have a car seat when you look at products for the car, so i was hoping somebody else had tried to deafen their baby before i did Florence (the baby) does like starting the engine with the button tho'

I haven't tried a baby seat but we do use a booster for our 5yo without problems.

The manual says no children under 12 should go in the vx - danger of submarining I think.

Babies / infants are a no-no in the VX.....hence reason why I've now had to be grown up and sensible with car selection :( Given the amount of gear required to transport the "little one", getting a baby seat in the front is the least of your worries...boot just about allows nappy bag..would need a boot rack for pram / buggy, selection of toys and of course industrial strength wipes to clear pools of "dribble" from the leather seats.

When I was collecting my Speedster, after clutch repair, from an Opel main agent in Germany, I noticed that he had a baby seat fitted in his Speedster Turbo for his toddler... he was happy with it... Can be done.

lol, yeah Ethan loves it. I've got used to getting in the car to find lights on, indicators going, misters on full and wipers going at max :D

I think I'd take him out in the car but it would be for the gentle drive type deal thumbsup

never heard a Miltek exhaust note, but I am sure Florence would be louder if kept in the boot - she certainly screams at 2 in the AM :groupjump: I can't see a problem with Submarining if the seat is fitted properly, i was hoping someone has / seen a car seat which has a narrow base

I'm sure there's a "no child seat sticker" in the door frame of mine.

I have had both types of seats in mine when Megan was a bit younger - A maxi-cosi babyseat and a Romer-King baby/toddler seat, the larger easy to install seat slightly gets in the way when changing gear but it is possible thumbsup Is it me or does that elise look like it has more room in it than the VX

I looked into this question 6 months ago as both my kids (5&7) love the VX and keep asking to be taken out in it. I chum of mine (works at thatcham and formally in the safety research dept for an F1 team) made the following comments: No child under 15 should travel in the VX because of danger of submarining (shape of the seat and position of seatbelts mounting) No child seat or booster cushion should be used which uses the VX seat belt to hold the child in place because of the potential fatal damage the seat bealt pre tensoners will do to a childs chest/ abdomin. (real blow as I've just purchased a pair of Recaro child seats for wifes car) A child seat which only uses the VX belt to anchor the child seat is OK if the childseat has harnesses. Both my boys now use their old Britax Freeway (seven year old can just fit into the harness because he is slim). Hope this helps

The door sills in an Elise (Mk2 anyway) are much narrower seats also felt wider too Cheers for the help with naming car seats - do you still have the Maxi Cosy Seat (Flo is only 15months)

This is usefull advice, I've been thinking about the issue on the seat belt, with pre tensioners as they are I've always wondered on those child seats which use them rather than a separate harness.

Going on from child seats I read the item about not suitable for under 12s. It may be wrong but Justin has been in mine since 9and a half years. You do drive with even more care. get a life I can afford a third car so I can transport him on the odd days her in doors cant. The car is far more safe even with the seat belt design than well over 50% of other cars on the road due to thier design or age. Just got to remember to take it easy.

Doesn't matter how carefull you are if some fuckwit decides to pile into the back of you at traffic lights / roundabout etc etc. For the price of a child seat with harnesses it not worth the risk..but agreed each to their own.
