I've been using a GIS dashboard which tracks confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) global cases by state/province or country depending on geographic size. Some interesting data! Death rate appears to be higher than the media are reporting. 6% in the source province in china going on current numbers but there are still many cases reported as 'live'.
Anyone know anything (other than bog roll must protect you).

The death rate is an artificial measure, there have no doubt been thousands of non diagnosed cases of COVID19 where younger healthy people had a bit of a tickly throat and a headache for a day or two and carried on regardless. In terms of lethality its probable going to be about the x00th most lethal disease in the UK behind cancers, flu, heart disease, liver problems, mental health related deaths, alcoholism so on and so forth.
I commute on the tube in London each day, it has thinned out slightly but most people carrying on as is, the odd nutter wearing plastic gloves etc.

Atleast with more folks wearing gloves, serial killers look less suspicious

Can't pay me enough to use the Tube at the best of times. I fcuking hate the filthy sweltering disease ridden thing. It's Europes biggest petri dish.

I kinda liken the UK on the whole to the scene in Carry on up the Khyber when the compound is being shelled
Although the head cases that have bought two hundred packs of hand sanitiser who don't realise its everyone else that needs to use it to stop them getting it does make me laugh. I genuinely cannot believe how thick some parts of the general public are.

I'm surprised we don't have one yet.

Not you scaremongering as well 😄😄, bad enough with the media needing to fill their 1 hour news spots with something 🙄

LOL
Yeah, it does read that way doesn't it. not the intention though, its the weird scientist in me looking at numbers. The mong in me didn't factor in the unreported cases as mentioned above.

In amongst all the noise on this though what would a typical winter cost in terms of Flu victims? 500 in a developed country like Italy sounds like a lot but is it? Are people getting Corona when on another year it would have been another variant? Closing down a whole country is a pretty extreme measure you would suspect they haven't taken that action unless it was really deemed necessary.

On their fingers though?
Covid-19 is more severe than the regular influenza that rotates seasonally (which is actually a different virus everytime, or at least a mutated version, hence flu shots change annually. I think 25% are classed as 'coronavirus').
Additionally, on the scale of severity and transmissibility, it ranks a medium for both, which apparently is about the worst combo - doesn't kill most of its hosts (which may limit its transmission), but has a higher mortality then regular flu's.
SARS was more deadly (higher mortality rate) but was no where near as transmissible apparently, hence why it never took hold outside China / Asia.
The above is just sh*t I heard on a podcast last night

We had email come around the business just now telling us that we cannot do meetings of more than 10 people has to all be done virtually - but we are to still keep coming into the office where I have to get on a train for two hours a day with hundreds of people on it...

McLaren pull out of the opening Australian Grand Prix after just getting there. Team members tested positive. Long bloody way to go to get a blood test.

Quite how Ferrari are allowed anywhere is beyond me, given Maranello (and Fiorano) have been in the quarantine zone. Not like they're going to win anything this year anyway.

Nah, you'll want to wait for -20.1.32revD to make sure all the early adopters have ironed out the bugs.
