Just picked up my new daily driver to replace the Clio RS220.....
Panther Black B8 Audi RS4. Despite the complete lack of any low down torque, once you get up the revs it sings

I know a guy in Sweden who says exactly the same. Love the car. It really likes petrol. A lot of interest from police officers.....
Nice car.

I'd always worry about buying on of these, or the RS6, second hand as the vast majority of them that I have seen being driven have been driven by tw@ts of the highest order who thrash the arse of them, cut in late on sliproads and seem so fcuking stupid that they haven never even worked out how to use the indicators.
Just my experience, Nothing personal.

Lol. Yes, you're right. There is always an exception to the rule

I whole heartedly agree! I looked at a few of them and some of them looked errmmmm "well driven" for the miles. This one looks brand spanking new inside and out
Hopefully I am keeping it out of the hands of one of those. Looking at the lifetime MPG (19.8) and my average so far over c1,000 miles since owning it (24.6) I would guess that the previous owners liked to thrash it.... I am of the sentiment that every engine needs it's neck wrung occasionally though just to blow away the cobwebs
Disclaimer: If I morph into an a-typical Audi driver I shall rescind the above

Nice.
I've quite recently got a B8 S4 which has been remapped and was surprised how thirsty it was. Sounds great though.
Infact my B5 RS4 is more economical than the B8!

I sold my B8 RS4 last month. I had it for a year and a half. Great car but agree it needs more low end torque. I put an eventual induction kit on it and it sounded brilliant. I sold it due to the worry of Audi repair prices, depreciation costs and the fact it had ceramic brakes which were mega however the cost of replacing them would have been ridiculous. Now dailying the vx for a bit.

7 months on and it's been in for its first service. Fortunately I had taken out the Audi Extended warranty which is basically the same as the original manufacturer one and if anyone is thinking of buying an Audi I would definitely recommend.
The adaptive suspension failed on 2 corners, which would have cost £2.5k to replace, but thanks to the warranty is being done FOC whenever Brexit/covid allows the parts to arrive from Germany.... Let's see how it affects the handling as it had been bonking like Ron Jeremy for the last few months.
Other than that I have to say the V8 in this thing is epic when you make it sing. Snap your neck quick and so much grip in pretty much all conditions. Despite the 4wd it has a fairly loose back end when you provoke it in dynamic setting (which I believe sends 80% of the power to the back). For a lump of a car there seems to be very little understeer and handling is really well controlled. To 60 it feels about the same if not slightly quicker than the SC VX, but after that it just doesn't stop pulling up to... ahem... high speed...hopefully will be able to get to a few track days this year and sneak the RS4 out in the afternoon for a bit.
Would I recommend it?
If you want a comfortable load lugger that will absorb a dog and loads of other kit easily then the A4 Avant is a great car. The quality is superb and the interior is just a lovely place to be. That being said, I wouldn't recommend the RS4 unless you are desperate (like me) to own an NA V8 before the world burns in an apocalyptic inferno. My Dad's S4 is more than quick enough, can be found with all the same toys/options, is just as quick in the real world, if not quicker given FI and is more economical. Really, what I want is an all electric A4 Avant...
