Fuel pump and ECU relay, so will be always on and running 30 A when the car is running so not surprising that they get hot
PS. shouldn't one be brown?

the ECU one is usually brown.

Does your ubend still have the oem heatshield, or heatwrap, as that is just below your relay location.

I did a search before posting and one of the answers I found suggested that the VXT has 2 grey relays, something to do with the normally open and normally closed switches

brown relay switches two circuits - 2 x Normally Open contacts
grey relay switches one circuit - 1 x Normally Open and one x Normally Closed contacts
Looking at the vxT engine wiring diagram it shows K16, K18 and K62 as single switch, so grey relays can be used.

Probably not, I have a Milltek system fitted

Not sure what the numbers mean exactly, but the brown relay has numbers, 30/40A and the grey relay has 20/30A
The diagram on both relays are the same

Is it the crispy one that is supposed to be brown?

I think so, my fuel pump kept stopping when these got hot
I have been looking at the brown relay and I can see the brown relay appears to have a double switch, so my post above is wrong

top diagram is grey

The grey bosch relays can also be found under the front bonet so you can swap the one for the horn for example as a temporary fix.
The brown one in the 2.2 has two outputs.

Any info regarding the VXT boot relays

Difficult.
I tried to get a clear picture of the 4 relays, and ended up with 3 completely different results.
Not sure what is going on with this turbo stuff. None of them have the brown one like the NA.

I have found the wiring diagram on one of the speedster forums, the wiring for them shows single switch relays in K16 and K18

If the pins got so hot you may want to check/replace the contacts in the relay socket too.
These 'springy' female contacts tend to relax when they are overheated and afterwards they can have issues making good contact even on a new relay and you end up burning it more from the resistance in the connection. (until the plastic of the plug simply melts away in a charred blob..)
At a minimum clean the socket well with a contact cleaner and check if the contacts still grab the relay pins securely. If not, pull the contact out of the socket and gently squeeze it a little in some pliers and re-test.
It's not a perfect fix as the conmtact material tends to have softened, so it has lost some of it's spring-back and will have a weaker grip, but often it works for some time again.
Bye, Arno.
