Hi everyone!

Went for a nice day out with the toy box yesterday. Stopped for fuel and had an issue with the fuel filler cap.

It unlocked fine. I filled with petrol and then couldn't put the bleeding thing back on. The little clip on the end of it was spinning freely which meant the mechanism didn't actually turn to lock, and the key wouldn't come out.  What felt like 4 hours (maybe 10 minutes) of fiddling I finally got the cap back in place and the key out. Great success!

Or so I thought. Upon arrival at my next destination I was made aware that I no longer had a fuel filler cap . Success not so great!

The question is: Where on earth can you find a replacement for one of these now?? Has anyone seen anything anywhere other than the very expensive carbon versions that can take a year to arrive?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

Got one from Batman.

Interestingly, I had ready in a few places that the locks aren't mated to ignition keys and that any VX ignition key would unlock it. This isn't true!

Tried and tested between a few other VX's too and can confirm that the keys didn't work interchangeably.

A quick file of the couple of locking pins causing the problem was straight forward enough - but though it might be worth mentioning for anyone in the future!

Gosh...this is soo me. I dread to remember the sunglasses i've drive-off from, perched precariously on the roof, never to be seen (..through) again, i left my actual glasses up there once at a meet and shortly after setting off with the 'pride' (collective noun for vx's) had to turn around and limp (..blur) home.

If i had the facility to create a personal sticky topic list of four or five threads that headed my own profile page (a good idea i think) then i would have this as number one...purely as a way to remind myself that i am not alone in my madness lol

Since May I've left two new packets of anti covid wipes and a pair sunglasses on the roof... don't drive with the roof on anymore.

 top radical remedy there...fantastic (respectfully laughing with you not at)...would it not be drier, warmer and generally safer, to keep the roof on and a reminder stick-it note slapped on your dash ;)

Good point. The 2 sets of wipes were Guglielmi Motorsports fault as I lost a pack going either way to and from my service. I will invest in some post it notes!

It is so easily done. perhaps it is the memory wiping pre-flight preparation of removing any future potentual cabin projectile from your pockets and head before performing the vx entry yoga   :)

I'm another one to drop my fuel cap and it then got run over. I think I can recover the key barrel, but the rest of the fuel cap is destroyed ????.

Does anyone know of someone breaking a VX220 or where else I could get a replacement cap. I have found that the Vauxhall part number is 9198026 but I've not managed to locate one yet.

Any pointers/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Hairy, But I believe this is just a vinyl skin to cover your existing cap. I need a new cap.

The car fills up like a bathtub in the rain, but you've not lost any more glasses!
