Oh a list, how I've missed lists,
And another
You're a top bloke, there are still a few of us who cherish the forumIt's on my main server now so there won't be issues again. It has daily backups to two off site locations with the most recent 10 daily copies kept on a rolling basis
I need to sort a SMTP relay is the last main step, time's rather limited currently but I will get it done in the next month or two.
This will allow the notifications and password recovery to operate again.
Seconded.
Me too
And me, thanks Neil

It is sad to see the forum vs facebook scenario, there is a massive amount of tech info stored here which should not be lost.
The persistance of data and posts also helps to make sure the info is correct and also peer checked by many who may have had a similar experience or found solutions.

That exactly, Facebook is a data messIt is sad to see the forum vs facebook scenario, there is a massive amount of tech info stored here which should not be lost.

Fully agree.
I use another forum quite heavily (Cliosport) and for one reason or another it has remained quite busy over the years. What I will say is that 'they' did upgrade the forum software and it made a massive difference to keeping people active rather than moving to faceache. You can copy and paste images into posts for example without needing to direct to a URL or stay under a small file size threshold.
I realise I am a new comer and as such don't want to cause any offence by saying that.

Yep, the server crashed a few months ago and back ups were corrupted so we lost about 3 years, currently in 22/23 catching up....
Ahh, what a shame!
Also bit of a shame to move to FB, I actively try to avoid it if I can
So does anyone with sense if they familiarise themselves with the highly invasive degree to which the app mines your devices for personal information that's fckuk all to do with them.
That's one reason I don't use the app, only the website.
Likewise, haven't had any problems on the website.

I'm on ClioSport too. Tend only to go there when I need srvice info - I don't admit to any vehicle other than a ClioSport.

Couple of years ago I bought a Suzuki DR800 and refurbished it. There was a very good forum full of technical information and knowledge. I'm not sure I'd have got the bike back together again without it. There was very little traffic on the forum and in the end the owner had enough maintaining it and took it down, which was a shame but understandable.

In those circumstances it would be nice if the 'owner' offered up the data, the first Ducati site I was on disappeared overnight as the 'owner' sold the domain name , all the content went phut

The owner had just had enough. I even offered to take it over when he talked about closing it which he didn't take me up on, then suddenly overnight it just went down.
To be honest, I couldn't blame him. The few posts there were just people asking for help or parts, not contributing to the forum, and once they got what they wanted they'd bugger off and not even say thanks.
It's the trouble with single vehicle forums. They will always get smaller.
There's another biker forum I joined, thinking of getting that particular bike. There weren't many on it, and it seemed pretty racist so I didn't go back. With a bigger membership and some decent mods that would've stopped. It only takes a few dicks to spoil a forum but as it gets smaller it only takes a few dicks to take it over and kill it. Let's hope that doesn't happen here. I'll try not to make a dick of myself.

I was once on a forum run by a rather unpleasant person. Once when I corrected it on a technicality on a thread, it actually went back and edited what it'd posted in order to be 'right' and then denied having done so. Slowly it banned one person after another for various reasons (including me) and was highly sexist with female members. Members PMs were 'policed' by highly biased moderators. My ban was a combination of something I'd said to someone in a PM and taking the p*ss out of 'it'. Eventually the forum folded because of lack of interest or interesting people and one allegedly controverial figure was actually approached and asked to go back as a member when the forum was in it's death throes. Such a shame - it was an excellentand entertaining forum for a long time, except for some right wing red neck 'concealed carry' Americans who were obviously just itching for someone to try and mug them so they could shoot the person involved.
