You're right of course, but if my recollection is correct, one of the primary objectives in choosing this size was that I would not have to re-calibrate my traction control. It's so long since I did that I can't even remember precisely how it was done other than going to a very large public car park somewhere and driving around experimentally to get it to work with 17" standard wheels. So basically a lazy choice because I have a 16/17 combination with no advantage from the 16" rims.
205/55 is the sort of tyre you'd fit on a bog standard VW golf made for comfort. A very bizarre choice for a VX220

Rears are 235/45 17. I have to have a front tyre that will fit within the 5% 4 channel ABS margin. So 205/55 is 1.6% difference and 205/50 4.7% which is probably too close allowing for wear. Also there is the Racelogic Traction control tolerance to consider (which I can't remember off the top of my head.
Retrospectively 235/40 17 - 205/5016 might have been a better choise. Not sure why I went for the former, perhaps the traction control differential was a factor
225/45x17 vs 205/50x16 is a 3.75% difference
235/45x17 vs 205/50x16 is a 5.22% difference
235/40x17 vs 205/50x16 is a 1.37% difference
Even 205/50 do look a little boaty, but seem to work ok. Surprising what was once considered low profile, I'm saying looks boaty !! lol

I have a brand new set of front and a good set of rear AO52s. Rears you can probably have for nothing, fronts though owe me £550.

What are the 52's like in the real world ?
for road and short sprint/hillclimb use ?
No full trackdays, so realistically, 1 lap maximum from cold.

Jak chcesz lepszej trwalosci to mozesz dac a052 tylko na przod a na tyl duzo twardsze cr-s. A052 jest idealna opona na przod. Ciezko mi sobie wyobrazic lepsza opone uliczna na przod. A na tyl mozna dac cos z lekko twardszej gumy jak cr-s bo na tyle i tak szybko sie dogrzeje
But then you need a geo, which may be easy for some, but when you live in the middle of nowhere...

Whilst of little relevance maybe, I recently put a pair of A052's at the back, Continental Premium 6's at the front. Perhaps an odd combo.
First short sprint on Saturday, runs always from cold ( just under 2 minute run ), so valid from a road tyre perspective, and of course I do use them on the road too although not to drive like a looney...
And they're actually pretty damn good. They certainly tidied up the balance of the car, good safe grip at the rear, no loose rear end turning or braking hard into bends etc and felt stable on fast bends.
Whereas with the Continental Premium 7's I had at the back before, the rear was quite loose. Although the Continental's felt totally fine on the roads, and good in the wet.
But the A052's definitely work from cold, they do grip well, car was nicely balanced, and even traction control barely doing anything the entire day, although it's set fairly loose.
I can't imagine A052's at the front and a tyre with less grip at the rear being a great combo.
