Hello,

im new to this Forum and bought an Opel Speedster Turbo from 2004 a few weeks ago.
I like the car very much but having some trouble with a boost related fault code that kills the fun on the car for me.
For this i write a new topic cause couldnt find any Solution by now.

Hello Hairy,

I have a P1106-9 code which says malfunction in boost system.
I already have changed due to maintance and the problem (car was not used for a few years at orevious owner):
- both boost solenoids
- Mass Air Flow Meter
- Spark Plugs
- Ignition Coil Pack
- Map Sensor
- Engine Oil and Filter
- Both Motor Mounts

I also already tried to bypass the vacuum reservoir box what seemed to help a little with power from what i can say from a short test drive but still error code was stored a a little power loss after short drive was noticeable but no error lamp on dash just the fault in the ecu.
I also had the vacuum lines already smoke tested.

The only thing i saw that was a little confusing for me is that the wastegate actuator (which is boost engaged) has a lot of spring force on it and doesnt move that far on a still stand with full throttle (maybe 5-10mm).
I also regognized that i can hear the turbo spooling and letting boost go when i take my foot from the gas pedal.
Dont know if thats normal that i can hear it that clearly.

I also checked the membran from the DV Valve on the Turbo looked ok and was able to move with a hand vacuum pump.

At the moment i dont know what else could be the problem ????

Do you have any idea?

It just looked and it says P1106-9 Boost Pressure Control Device Malfunction

Does the car accelerate ok ?

Hi Flo do you have a boost gauge/able to read boost levels with and without solenoid connected?

Could be over boosting due to wastegate penny sticking or actuator would wound in too much and or check the arm is not fouling the vband


Also check earth continuity to boost solenoids

Dont recall if you have the oem intake if that is collapsing under boost triggers that code

Hello thanks for your replies!

Car accelerates bormal and has normal power but after few minutes you can fell that it has about 20percent less power.

Hi Flo do you have a boost gauge/able to read boost levels with and without solenoid connected?

How far should the wastegate move on normal working vx220 turbo / speedater turbo?
It looks not bend and also does not touch anything in the area where the wastegate is.


How can i check earth continuity to boost solenoids does anyone has a wiring diagram or is it marked on solenoid what is earth cable?

I have oem intake what part do you refer to that collaps under boost?

I think he means the pipe that runs from the air filter to the engine, along the back of the engine bay

Ok that pipe has no cracks in it or do you mean it gets pulled together if its too weak already om full throttle and restricts air flow?

When the pipe is warm it can get pulled in so it is commonly replaced with a metal intake pipe.

Thank you very very much for your help.
Ill check the ground points and look for an alloy intake then we will see if that fixes my problem - i hope thats the problem

Hi Flo

Good to hear it is not fouling and has travel and one less thing on the list. If the boost hose is not the cause

You really need to know static pressure it starts to open the wastegate with boost solenoid not connected to confirm it is set correctly. This will help rule out turbo wastegate and actuator function

Then what boost it is making with boost solenoid to before going further

Is the map standard on the car?

Hello,

I was busy the last days but found time today to install an aluminium intake pipe but still after test drive i have the same fault code (no cel light) in the ecu.
It feels that its pulling a little bit stronger altough but maybe ots just imagination

Do you just unplug the solenoid for that test and if so its the one on the turbocharger - just for assurance what does the other solenoid refer to that sits at the intake manifold side?

For boost readings can i just read that trough obd on these cars or do you have to install an boost gauge?

From what i know and believe the car is standard map.

Hello,

I tried today when i disconnect the solenoid on the turbocharger then i have almost no powet feels like half the power but im getting the same fault again after repluging and deleting fault codes it pulls strong but suddenly it reduces power little bit and the fault p1106-9 same as before shows up if i delete it or restart the car it has power as before like nothing wrong.
