You guys are so lucky to have the VX220 available in you're own country! Ever since I laid eyes on this car, i knew I had to have one.. looks so much better than the Elise too! I've been looking into importing one from either the UK or Europe.

I live in Australia and Opel doesn't exist here, nor does Vauxhaull. I've contacted one of GM's subsidiaries here, and they're not willing to help out with importing a VX220 Turbo/Opel Speedster Turbo into Australia, they've said that I'm on my own  , I have to go to the government to apply for a personal import approval.

The only way I can get one imported is to make sure it appears on a list of eligible vehicles on a government list (as it doesn't appear on it at the moment : http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/), and then find some government certified workshop/garage to write a letter guaranteeing that it will be made compliant with the Australian Design Rules (ADR's) even before I can apply for an Import Approval to bring it in!... (talk about making it hard ...!)

Some of this is explained on : http://www.dotars.go...eg/str_sevs.htm

The application I'm trying to complete at the moment will (hopefully) get it listed so I can start finding a workshop to do the compliance. If you're interested, here's the form : http://www.dotars.go...ansreg/form.pdf

cheers

Here's where I need some help from you owners in this forum... I've searched over the internet for the last week, but haven't seen any posted anywhere on the net, not even myspeedster.ch had them... I need to find out (or confirm) what the following would be :

i) Typical VIN (Vehicle Identification Number/Chasis Number) :
(The Lotus Elise ones are : SCCJA1112YHC70001 Does yours look similar? or completely different? can you provide a sample one for a turbo model?)

ii) Make : (is it Lotus/Vauxhaul/Adem Opel/GM ?) This isn't as easy as it sounds, they ask for the original manufacturer who first made that series of car. The department of transport may say 'well, it's just a body/engine variant on a Lotus Elise, so that makes it a Lotus'... what does you're vehicle manual/ID plates say?

iii) Manufacturer's Model Code : Non turbo : Z22SE, Turbo : ???
So far, I've found out that the number for the 2.2 engine VX's is : Z22SE - can anyone tell me what the corresponding number is for the turbo model?

iv) Typical Engine Numbers :
(Lotus engines have a designation similar to : 18K4K444485059)

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks,

Andrew Reynolds

In my case it's 006566 ii) ADAM OPEL AG iii) The engine identifier code of the 2.0 Turbo is Z20LET iv) Cannot make it out. I know it's on the front of the oil filter housing. Anyone else help ?

:jump: Thanks for your help! I think I can get the paperwork started on this... though it looks as though it may be more difficult than I first would have guessed, especiallly since the VIN is totally different from the Lotus Elise (I'm sure many of you VX owners wouldn't be too surprised at this), but what this means for me is that i have to find some workshop/garage that's willing to guarantee that they could bring this car up to the ADR standards without having actually seen or worked on one before... :( In any case, I shall persist, hope to get my application lodged later this week...if it doesn't work out, looks like I'll have to land a job in the UK and buy one brand new over there :) Where there's a will... cheers !

There was a rumour some months ago that Holden were looking at importing the VX/ Speedster under their own badge into Oz. It might be worth you chasing them :)

Would the parts CD help? You can buy the Vauxhall parts catalogue which apparently (I haven't actually seen it) reads a bit like a repair manual. I'm sure others will be able to expand on this.

They often go on eBay, as per http://cgi.ebay.co.u...&category=10404

"This is the CD used by Vauxhall Dealers to find the parts on your vauxhall. fully searchable starting by vehicle (up to and including the VX220!) you select through the various parts of the car until you find the part you need. The CD enables you to get part codes with illustrations of the individual parts also. Its what Vaux use to find your part when you go to them. It can also save you time because you can build a list of parts you need before you go to vauxhall and then you only need to give them the part numbers. You can also see specific technical drawings of each part right down to the individual nuts and bolts!!!!! Price includes shipping to any UK postal Address"
