i'm not really into private plates which refer to the owners name but a friend has a Clio V6 and he got a 250.00 one from DVLA... K3 VVG but with some creative spacing he has K3V V6 not bad for 250.00 notes. i have N20 GTT.. not too brash but for those who know what the plumes of Gas are coming from the sctuttle, nitrous GT turbo is very fitting.

My old MD at work had 1CE on his Aston Martin...That looked the nuts although everyone though he was a drug dealer - Not a frozen food king! There was also an old green range rover that knocked around Wallasey with LEG 1T as the number plate..always made me chuckle!

A good one which I have seen in Corrie (sorry,, I am a fan!) is on Mike Baldwin's girlfriends M3 - the plate is MYM30K but is spaced brilliantly to look like - MY M3 OK How cool?! Also, a point I've thought of in the past - on the 1st March 2022 we'll all be able to buy VX22O** plates!! 22-reg?! So for example VX22O SW!!! Only just over 17 years left - by which time we'll all hopefully be driving around in our Classic VX's!!

For me as a swedish guy this thread is really strange. Here we can have anything that's not offensive between two and seven digits on our plates. The price for that is SEK6000 (roughly £400) and we have it for 10 years. It's not that popular to have personalised plates here.

It's like that in many countries outside of England. Here there are very strict rules about the lettering on the numberplate and the spacing between the letters etc. Sometimes there is only one or two plates in existance which spell a word perfectly and therefore the demand for some plates is very high and people pay up to £300,000 at an auction to secure the purchase.

Worst thing is, it's the government authority (The DVLA) who run the auctions and create the competition for numberplates which drives the prices high. They make an absolute mint out of it.

I just realised what I had put - of course none of us could put this on a VX because you are not allowed to have plates which are newer than the car they are on!! I can't believe I didn't think of this before I typed it out!

I can't even use the excuse that I had had a pint too many last night either....

Sorry!

I think private plates are a pretentious waste of money frankly. It's a numberplate. It identifies your car. The end. The car already attracts more attention than I would like; the last thing I need is SEX1 VX or the like plastered on both ends. Nevertheless, I have seen one a few times which makes me chuckle. It follows the standard format and hints at a sense of humour on the part of the driver: FL02 PPY on a Boxster.
