Ricky, I have noted that you have the Regal 4-1 exhaust manifold. Is totally different to the original? Pipe dimension? Layout?

The pipes seem to be quite short, in order to fit to the original exhaust. Have you noted a power increase? Noise?

it is much lighter then the original manifold, pipes are wider in diameter, and the installation is a simple swap using the same 12 bolts or so.

cannot tell about power gains, since I installed it along with the komo-tec box, overall a big improvement above 4000 rpm, and the sound is growly-popping-tastic!! B) B)

Ricky, is it possible for a motor mechnical numbskull to fit a dbilas inlet manifold? It looks like it's very easy to get to so I'd give it a go myslef if I thought it would be quite straight forward.

ian,
I was quoting about the exhaust regal manifold...dunno how the dbilas is made/installed. :(

That settles the question, I got to have one too :groupjump: !!!!!!!!!!!!! A bit more sound and a lot more power is may aim ;) I'll combine it with new camshafts, a sports exhaust and an ECU remap and see what the result is

another thing to keep in mind is that modding the intake/exhaust is fine and dandy, but once you make the car inhale and exhale so much better, you need to provide more fuel to match the increased ventilation, otherwise the air/fuel mix will become too lean, damaging the engine (higher temps spots in the comb.chamber) that can be fixed marginally by a remap, iridium plugs, but the best bet is to use bigger injectors.

Ricky do you know anyone that supplies fuel injection mods on the VX, I've never seen any.

I'll work on that with a tuner, and I should know something soon... B)

Isn't the lambda sond used for ensuring that the fuel mixture always is 14:1 or whatever. Otherwise I suppose you would get a error code stored in the ECU?

The engine ecu sensors should keep the A/F mix reasonably OK but IMO any change to the air in/out of a car (be it filer, exhaust or both) should be run on a RR and an ECU remap done to take full advantage.

I agree to a certain extent with you there Mr T, but if you're just fitting a filter/exhaust, the changes to airflow are improved but only to a degree. The ECU can self-adjust enough to make sure that the fuelling is adjusted accordingly. You will get more power with the re-map, as you would with a re-map on a standard engine, but the "extra" power the re-map will release is minimal.

latest news from chris at regal..... eds in germany ( regals software tuner) now have a opel speedster to play with....this means they will be testing/writing software for most upgrades and as they have now finished the boost-beast ( a twin engined nova - 2 270bhp turbo engines) it is full action on new software for both of the vx's.......they have assured me that the new software will be amazing especially if you have a modded car.... :groupjump:

Have all the other re-maps been based on the Astra engine in situ then?

http://www.regal-shop.co.uk they are based just off the end of the M3 in Southampton. Stage 1 costs £295.00. Exhaust depends on whether you have the full system but the back box is £440 and I think fitting is about £150

in answer to thorneys question....about whether the re mapps have been based on an astra.....NO! they have been using my car as the test bed.... but they now have a car can they can really play with.....and this means that they could supply software for a variety of different mods to the car....... :poke:

I just got a mail from a german bloke who is telling me that they are soon releasing a "long branch" 4-1 exhaust manifold with integrated sports cat for the speedster. This came as a reply to my reaction on the rather short "standard length" branches on the Regal 4-1 unit. Seems promising!
