the f23 will fit the crateengine with some modification of the flywheel/clutch. what has hitec said about the head on the 2,2 engine?. i know some of the engineers at saab, that is developing the turboengine aswell as the sc (not really official ;) ). one of the biggest concernes for boosting a 2.2 is the weak combustionchambers in the head. the roofs are too thin and the lostfoam-casting isn´t helping  i got 2 (evolution3) cylinderheads from saab that has 80% thicker roofs and a upgraded kokill-casting. they are good for >450hp and very stable at high cylinderpressures.

#2177, I hope you didn't think I was trying to discredit you there, I was actually trying to convey why it cost's so much and why the 2.2 had to be developed rather than just bolting on bit's. "Key components leveraged from the Saab 2.0L version of the Ecotec engine into the 2.0L SC engine include a direct-mount oil cooler, oil jets for piston cooling, heavy-duty pistons, stronger connecting rods, forged-steel crankshaft, larger oil sump, sodium-filled exhaust valves for improved durability and a high-strength aluminum cylinder head."

@Crabash: No sweat. :D .. I just wanted to explain , how this whole project worked out. When I started, I was totally naive and innocent and thought, I buy one of those Crate engines or "a supercharger" and everything would fit. You experienced people know, that this is wishful thinking and the details try to kill you, not the biggies. #2177 (Alexander)

lol, get about 16 of those and 8 batteries to run it and you might get 2bhp, oh and gain about 150kg. Can't believe people actually buy these.

Hi Sam, we have been involved with Hitec on this for along time, I was talking to them again yesturday , Alex's car is being homolgated at the 200 BHP leval today. After this the next stage is being carried out which should give 235-240 (perhaps more). I am due to fly over and see them the week after next and we will be installing the conversion on my own car in the next month or so. :D If you need any more info, give me a call or drop me an email with a day time number on it and I can give you all the specs and a more in depth history on what is been happening. Regards Jon

Nice one Jon!
A daft question - but I'll ask it anyway! :P Given that most VX owners want their cars to be both tourers and track cars, how less reliable is the SC kit likely to make it?

Sorry for the delay in replying, here goes....
If the car is used for road use with some track use, you will not see any major drop in engine life. However if the car is exclusively used on the track (i.e. constant full load) then a drop in life has to be expected. On both accounts; changing your oil more frequently will extend engine life, as will using a better quality of oil, capable of withstanding higher temperatures, therefore staying grade longer.
To this end we have seen previously converted heavier cars i.e. Astra, Vectra’s etc exceed the 100,000 mile mark with no major signs of wear, but having used better quality service items. thumbsup

Thanks for the offer Sam :P My own VX has been waiting a long time for this, and I'm starting to get allot of stick from Mark, friends and now customers ! about its lack of use, they may have a point 18months old and 1202 miles is a bit embarrassing :D
However if the car should be abducted by alians or removed from me and put in VXL's heritage centre I will give you the nod ;)
