I've found a very interesting topic on the german Speedster site:

http://forum.opel-sp...?showtopic=4203

It's someone who developed special wing-hinges voor Speedster doors. They fit exactly on the original mounting holes, without modding anything.
Afterwards your door swings upwards instead of outwards. The final look and effect is superb!
Prices for the two hinges is a small 1.600€ (or 2.000€ installation included). But is simple to do it yourself.

Do you have any pictures from the side? It does look from this angle as though you would hit your knee as you try to get in & out of the car. But other than that, I think it looks fantastic!

ok, here it comes. You can also have the hinges with a longer hydraulic spring, so that it's swings more upward. But following the people who tried getting in it should be even easier then with the standard outswinging doors.

No it's a "pipeline product" and won't be available on the VX for about another 7 years and 9 months. :P

Detailed view of the hinge wich is mounted on the reinforcementbeam of the VX-door, just like the normal hinge.

And a last picture of the hinge mounted in the car and onto the beam, but with the doorcover left away for clear view. For the rest you'll have to contact the developer. I'm just an innocent spectator :D Personally I would love to make this mod, but my wife is complaining already all the time now because she can't understand at all why I'm continuously modding my car which is in a perfect normal working state. :( That's typical for most woman, I think. They tolerate our love for cars, but don't understand it.

Does the door have a special bar or something on the inside to pull the door down with? Usually to close the door, you turn your hand upside down and pull horizontally towards you. That won't be much use if you're pulling the door down?

Ok. I did send the guy (a certain 'Dadde') a pm to ask for his adress, telephone and e-mail and asked him if he speaks english so you can contact him yourself. The moment I have the info I pass it on in this forum. I saw a little film of how a similar system works. As far as I can tell there is no inside mod necessary to the door. (bar or handle). You just pull the door down while getting into the car. The door ends in down position about 15cm outwards. You then close it the normal way. Seemed very simple to handle.

Looks a really interesting conversion, especially if its as simple to install as pics/comments suggest. Would'nt have to park so far away from petrol pumps and other cars ! Any problems anticipated with insurance, regarding attachment of side inpact bars to a non standard hinge ? I'll try to PM 'Dadda' for more details. Don't speak a word of German :( Perhaps being a European he might speak some English  Dave K

I tend to stretch the truth with modding, ie "it will be so much easier for you to get into the car with these door catches."

LAST UPDATE ON THE LAMBO HINGES. ALL INFO TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. Yesterday I received following mail of Dadde. (I translate in English) >Mail from 'Dadde':< Hallo I'm sorry it took so long to hear from me. But stress in business, the flu and a lot of requests for the hinges... . My English is not very good, but with a lot of patience it must succeed. But I prefer german. My E-mail adress is: MCzotscher@t-online.de My business tel.nbr is: 08294/1452 (Private nbr 08294/2539) Of course you have to dial the prefix for Germany. For those who would like to send post; send it to this adress: Auto Czotscher, Biburgerstrasse 26, 86500 Kutzenhausen / Rommelsried. Important: do not send any attachment with your e-mail, because I don't open them from people I don't know. Dadde >End mail Dadde< Pipo

To be clear. I don't have any connection to that person. I just read the info about his hinges on the german Speedster site, and I did put it on the VX site. That's all. If you want more info, you will have to contact him. But I know there is a lot of interest from the germans, because it's so easy to make this modification yourself and you don't have to make any mods on your precious VX because it's just a question of replacing the original hinges with the Lambo-hinges.
