Tip: the blade goes between the relay and the thing it has been pushed up into. Not between the relays, or between the relay and the bulkhead.

Half an hour to remove the old one. Screwdriver tip most helpful chinky chinky 10 seconds to fit the new. 1 minute to test the functions. I'm most impressed :)

Finally got mine fitted on the third attempt. Bent the key I used to remove the original one though! Works like a charm - big improvement.

I might take a trip to the scrappy to look for a relay from a Mk 3 Golf. Now the silly question, I know where it is located on the VX but where is it on the Golf? Thanks Dave

They are in MK3 Golfs, and similar age Ventos and passats. Below the steering wheel is the fuse box cover. the relay you want has 99. in white on the top. 19. is the standard non variable relay.

Dave and I did this mod yesterday and it works a treat thumbsup Unfortunately Mark's guide is not applicable for UK Turbos (not sure about na's) as there are 3 relays, and the one nearest the outside of the car is definitely not the wiper relay!! The relay to change is the largest of the 3 and is nearest the steering wheel. It's actually the easiest to get out as it is longer and can be wiggled in rotation until free. Nick thumbsup

I got one from VW the other day. V expensive (£27+VAT) but it works and I am happy. Still trying to figure out the intermittent timing. I seem to be getting it on a 'hit and miss' basis. I want to suss it out properly when it starts raining!. Probably will have to wash the car... would you believe it hasn't rained in the last 6 days??? Sods law or what? Part number 3B0 955 531 (it is a newer relay and replaces the 357 955 531).

Still trying to figure out the intermittent timing. I seem to be getting it on a 'hit and miss' basis. I want to suss it out properly when it starts raining!.

1. From the off position move onto the intermittent and then back to off
(make sure that it actually clicks into place)

2. Then when you want the wiper to sweep again move it back to the intermittent position and leave it there.

3. The wiper will continue on at this time delay and every other time you put the intermittent wiper on

4. To change the time delay again just repeat the above

+ it is important to get the relay with 99 stamped on it in white. The other one does not have the same functions. Dave
