Although I think it does reset itself when you turn the ignition off.3. The wiper will continue on at this time delay and every other time you put the intermittent wiper on

think it goes back to a 7 sec delay. Mine seems to be programable between 2 and 20 odd secs.

Mine doesn't have 99 on it but does work. THe VW garage said it was a newer relay though.+ it is important to get the relay with 99 stamped on it in white.
The other one does not have the same functions.

Thanks Nick!1. From the off position move onto the intermittent and then back to offStill trying to figure out the intermittent timing. I seem to be getting it on a 'hit and miss' basis. I want to suss it out properly when it starts raining!.
(make sure that it actually clicks into place)
2. Then when you want the wiper to sweep again move it back to the intermittent position and leave it there.
3. The wiper will continue on at this time delay and every other time you put the intermittent wiper on
4. To change the time delay again just repeat the above

Turns out VW have changed the part number from 357-955-531 to 1HM-955-531B. I believe this is still fitted to the Passat.
VW won't sell them as a spare for some unspecified but apparently officially documented reason and, if you press them, they try to palm you off with 191-955-531 which is the non-programmable part for £23.50.
I got one from VW the other day. V expensive (£27+VAT) but it works and I am happy. Still trying to figure out the intermittent timing. I seem to be getting it on a 'hit and miss' basis. I want to suss it out properly when it starts raining!. Probably will have to wash the car... would you believe it hasn't rained in the last 6 days??? Sods law or what?
Part number 3B0 955 531 (it is a newer relay and replaces the 357 955 531).

Have just checked with the VW garage over the road and 3B0 955 531 is listed as the replacement and 1HM 955 531B doesn't exist, so that about wraps that one up!So which part number is it that replaces 357 955 531?
1HM 955 531B or 3B0 955 531?

£26.99 + VAT (£31.71)How much did it cost you? High £20's?

Cheers mate. Might have to get one soon, as the streaky-ness is really p*ssing me off at the mo£26.99 + VAT (£31.71)
Not the cheapest but I prefer to have a new component from a known source and a nice receipt for the cars history

under the dash to the right of the steering column.Sorry to get in a tad late on this thread but where is the relay located on the mark 3 golf? I have a choice of two in a friends scrap yard but he's unsure where/what he's looking for!
Any ideas?

Fitted and workingJust picked up on this thread last week. Looks a great mod, so I checked out my locals factors and found that Andrew Page sell the Bosch relay mentioned here. It took them a week to source the relay, (they had several Hella ones that matched the part number, but I though it would be better to be safe and buy the Bosch) but I picked one up today. Identical to the pic a few pages ago.
I'll fit it once it stops raining![]()
Don't know if he quoted me the wrong price, but I was charged £12.26 incl VAT.
