Any left

can i reserve one for the next lot or are 'we' going to get this buy sorted Bengie??? :poke:

Any ideas - i am quite keen to get it soon

It's a bit hard tbh.

Every time Mark runs out, and I start a list, Mark magics some more...

I don't want to get stuck with 6 or 7 relays - that's a lot of money.

I can understand why people want to save a tenner though.

Edit:

The list was:
JNeill
Chazuwe
laidback50
jimgraham
snoopstah
paul
M3 BFG (simon)
Richiemouse
Ducati996Senna
Tom (Aberdeen)
benw
johnvx220

I think it's now:
List
Richiemouse
Ducati996Senna
Tom (Aberdeen)
benw
johnvx220

Is that right?

My relay arrived yesterday but it will probably have to wait for the weekend for me to get around to fitting it. Thanks again Mark thumbsup Graham.

James Neill

Posted out today.

Arrived today. thumbsup

And finally fitted today.

After nearly getting stuck upside down, and struggling to get the old one out, the replacement slotted in sweet as a nut. And works brilliantly.

Outstanding!

Having forgotten to join the list, yesterday afternoon I thought I would check with VW for a part to fit today. Turns out VW have changed the part number from 357-955-531 to 1HM-955-531B. I believe this is still fitted to the Passat. VW won't sell them as a spare for some unspecified but apparently officially documented reason and, if you press them, they try to palm you off with 191-955-531 which is the non-programmable part for £23.50. Being made grumpy by this I searched the web and found some yanks doing the same upgrade. They also identified a Bosch part as suitable. Bosch have them and it works. Part number 0-986-335-058. £20.50 including VAT. They were "in stock" this morning and I got one over the counter. Although all the instructions are in "foreign" it seems to work in exactly the same way. BTW, I wish I still weighed 11 stone. Its a bit tight head down under the dash. Anybody got a convincing reason why that cluster of 3 relays is placed there instead of about 6" away on the other side of the bulkhead where one could get at them standing up? Regards - Ian

Quoting myself from Page 3 of this thread...

Part numbers:

(They all do the same job - I've got the Bosch one)
Beru: 0 900 301 082
Kostal: 377 955 531
Bosch: 0 986 335 058

The page where I got these from is >here<

HTH

Seems you didn't need to do all that searching on the internet.

Also, cyberman you seem to be suggesting that I'm lying about the price that these relays cost. I just posted what I paid for mine, and that there might be a discount if enough of us got together.

As most of the people on the original list have bought second hand relays from Mark, the number that I'm going to buy is less, therefore we'll probably get a lower discount.

I'll phone the place I got my relay from on Monday, and see how much it'll cost to buy the right number - as per the list futher up the page.

What's the address of the Bosch counter that you bought your relay from, because according to the Bosch website that I got my information from they only sell to the public through resellers.

Bengie

I am sure the people who saw your original page 3 post found it helpful. However, I didn't see it or, if I did, did not recall it when I went searching the web on Friday using Google with the following key: 191 955 531 programmable delay. I find it faster to search the web than to search vx220.org.uk or read a 9 page forum.

What I found was : http://www.nwlink.co...AQs/faq.vw.tech. I can confirm that the remarks made there are accurate except that, via the VW agent in Reading, it was stated they would not sell the 1HM 955 531B as a spare.

As to suggesting you are lying about the cost *I have no idea* what price you are reporting as I have not (still) read that part of the thread. I reported what VW quoted me and I have that in writing. I also have the receipt from Bosch's agent in High Wycombe. If anyone doubts this I will scan and upload the documentation. The agent is found on the Bosch UK website at http://www.boschauto...ag1.asp?c=2&d=3. If I recall correctly they are called Allparts. Very helpful and jolly good I found them too.

As to a group buy and the price etc you achieve, good luck. I suddenly found I had time this weekend to do a little work on my car and wanted the part in 24 hours. I didn't even look at the new group buy as I was only interested if there was dispatchable stock. There wasn't and I moved on to direct procurement.

Nothing I posted was intended as a reflection on you. Sadly, in my haste, I was blissfully unaware of the contributions you had made. I provided the information to confirm that, if the supply of second-hand parts was running out (which seemed to be the case), and VW would not supply, there was a source and the stuff worked.

Kind regards - Ian

Imnotworthy Brill. On and working, although it is an awkward job! Thanks to Bengie for bringing the topic up and thanks to Mark for the cheap part and quick service! chinky chinky Richard PS Just need to change the wiper blade itself now! Might fit the S1-S2 Elise conversion kit- my mate did it on his Lizzie yesterday and it's only about £30 IIRC

Hi Mark, Received my relay, thanks for the swift service! I can see two relays under my dash, does anyone know which it is you need to swap out. They are pretty stiff and don't want to waste my time taking the wrong one out! Cheers Charlie

Chaz, it's the one on the left as you look at it from under the dash. Good luck - it's a bit awkward down there...
