Back in my pre-Milltek days I used one good 6mm HSS bit and a wood chisel to remove mine. Should have no effect on your MOT. AFAIK its primary function is to handle exhaust gases when the engine is cold.

Yes... the pre-cat is only there for to meet EU requirements for emissions while the main cat gets up to temperature. As the MOT should be carried out on an engine up to temperature, the pre-cat isn't needed.

i can't seem to get through the last bit of mine. Does the comb change on the other side? and does it go down the whole length of the 2 in pipe?

As its a CAT you will find it will happily heat up and melt your bits, if your not careful. Drill as deep as you can without destorying the bit then use something like a wood chisel to remove the rest. It has the consistency of thick tin foil so once you get going its pretty easy to finish.

Full Milltek is everything, downpipe with no preCAT, Cell 200 CAT and backbox plus the whole system is Stainless Steel and weights alot less.

Think i'll save for a milltek, as soon as i'm nearing the amount, we need a new fridge or we need to book a holiday

I'd hazard a guess that it wouldn't work. It certainly wouldn't work if the substrate of the cat is ceramic.

Plus there would be the danger of molten metal getting stuck to the sides of the downpipe or in the main cat...

Nope! Although I did notice a different exhaust tone [more of a burble] between other VX's I test drove! Plus I checked the previous owner's [blanchie] post on here saying how much of a biatch it was to get out! I think the only way to check properly is taking it apart.

question .. why drill ? Cant you ram it out ? (i remember a post with pics when a member used a large hammer) Well i know you could but why is drilling better? Cause of the debris? I got my engine out and i thougt i might remove the pre-cat tomorow and would like to know if there's a short cut doing this with ramming it. :)
