Has anyone replaced the griffin centre caps on their wheels? If so, what did you replace them with?

Lorenzo in Basel has totally debadged his yellow Speedster (apart from steeringwheel centre). Has alu centres with a black ring. Ricky put red centres on his standard wheels on his red Speedy (and beat Lorenzo by even debadging his steeringwheel in the course of de-airbagging it) but has blown it by sticking a Speedster boot badge on again. Shame on you, Ricky... 20 non-functional grammes! :P Interesting aside: both these debadged italian bloods have had track shunts with panel damage. Lorenzo at the Hockenheimring, Ricky at the Nürburgring. Is this the start of a pattern? Just trying to liven up a slightly dry topic. :D

So, come on, how, where, what.

I think they spoil the look of the wheels.

Actually, I am eeerrrrrrring on the Ricky route and doing the front V as well.

just caulked the 4 holes, and given to the shop that color-coded'em calypso, along with the dash fascia.

...ahem, for the mech-challenged, remove the wheel and push'em out from behind.

So the badges are not stuck on, they are on pins and poked through little holes? Thats a bummer, I just wanted to remove griffin and leave them alloy. Bugger, just also remembered I don't have a jack. Off to a parts shop tomorrow, get a trolley jack.

Oi, guest. Do they just break off then? Or is there some stickiness to them as well.

for the opel badge, its 4 clips that get undone from behind, like a connector. no glue.

Took them off my one, don't remember any clips, used a steamcleaner on them first as I think there was some glue, then levered them off.

Buying a jack tomorrow.

Be careful with locating the jack correctly!
Gisou's Speedy got damaged using the jack. :(
Do a search on jacking points for details of the problems. :)

Will probably jack under wheel points rather than on the body points of the car. Any pointers? Going for a proper trolley jack.

the jacking points are clearly marked on the underneath of mine. jack it there and if you have problems down to vauxhall.

Not sure why i was a guest. They are attached with the usual sticky foam tape, I use a small amount of fishing line to pull behind the badge then it starts to come off. The small disk in the wheel middle came off on 3 of my 4 wheels, as I think the adhesive is stronger than the plastic clips, they push back on after.

Vex Not tried it but I would be suprised if you had to take wheels off to get centre caps off, on most cars I have owned if you are careful you can usually just lever them off. If you are going to remove the badges anyway just pull the griffin off either my way or Chuck's method above, then there are 2 nice little holes that could assist you in removing the whole cap if necessary. Regards Chris

I would advise taking the wheels off and then pushing the centre caps out from behind. If you try and lever the caps out you may damage your wheels and or the centre caps, better be safe than sorry. The badges are normally put on with double sided sticky foam and the two pegs are there for location purposes i.e. to get them central. The best way to remove them is as Chuck said with fishing line or dental floss used like a cheese wire to saw through the sticky foam. As for jacking I always use a trolley jack at the point marked on the underbody and also put a piece of wood on top of the jack foot to protect the underbody. I chock both wheels on the opposite side of the car and find that this makes the car quite steady. You will be able to lift both wheels off of the ground by using the recomended jacking point.
