My beautiful VxT was backed into by a strange woman in a Suzuki 4*4. I should have given her more than 5 metres room when parking as the dents and scrapes on her bodywork were a dead warning! Fortunately the damage is just a small puncture on the front apron although it means a total front respray as the paintwork is "pearlescent". Anyway she has to pay for it now and its in the body shop. However, there is a problem. The colour is (I think) Black Sapphire Pearlescent as that seems to be the only listed black colour for VxTs on the Vauxhall website. The Colour Code on the door frame label is 28U. The problem is that the paintshop say this (Vauxhall) code identifies a blue colour and not black. They found seem to be having trouble identifying the right paint to use. Any body been through this / know what the codes / names etc are so that we locate the right stuff? Many thanks - Ian

Good post LazyD Useful info...... FWIW, I went to Halfords to get a touch up mixed, and none of their paint codes listed in their manual remotely matched the alphabet soup on the driver's door frame.

Has anyone got the code for Dolphin? Some little scrote rammed me into the kirb at the weekend, and scuffed my bumper and 3 of my alloys  :beat:

Has anyone got the code for Dolphin?

Could you not just use Halfords primer ? :gayfight: :P

Seriously tho it should be on the drivers door jam, although it doesn't say paint code it will be similar to the other codes posted above.

Re. the black code on the turbo i have no idea as I just nicked that list off another post somewhere

Hrrm

The plot thickens. I have now spoken to the parts department at Lance Owen Heathrow (who were helpful) and they swear there is *no such paint code as 28U* (even though its on the chassis plate on my door jam) for *any* VX220.

However, they do show a 2HU as Black Sapphire Pearlescent. H and 8 don't sound too dissimilar and H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. I bet someone is typing in the chassis label and yells "whats the code for that black metallic" and hears 28U not 2HU in the reply.

Its a definite b**ger but the paint shop think they can sort it out now. They were not complimentary about Lotus and paint code / colours and about TVR positively scathing.

If it helps, the shades sometimes change with a model year. All the cars have 2 paint codes, the three digit ones & the four digit code that Foxy has given for Dolphin. I've got a list at home from my Vauxhall days but don't finish here until gone 6 tonight.I'll see if I can find it. Editted to add wasn't 2HU the solid black of the 2.2? Again I'll check later.

I have found the following DuPont chart which may help and seems to confirm 2HU as wellas providing a DuPont 4 letter code:

As you can see there are 3 revisions of the colour Black Sapphire.

Kind regards - Ian
