Well, time will tell on this one and I'll update after the car goes in on the 27th. So far it's as bad as expected. Phone call as follows - after him taking car details: Me: Hi, I've got a VX220, I'll be leaving it outside so I want the part that goes on the engine lid and covers the spark plugs to protect against rain. Him: OK, we can do that. Can I take a credit card number. We won't charge until we put it on the car. Me: No, this is a part that you supply free under waranty. Him: Oh, OK I'll look into that.... Sorry I've only been here a couple of weeks. I really, really hope that they order the right part.... I suspect they won't. :( Also asked for the ABS upgrade, just for the hell of it.....not even sure if later (03) NA's have it. Anyone know? Lee

Hmmmm I was told that my 03 NA had already had the ABS work done but I've been meaning to check with willow to see if they are talking porkies or not. I think the "rain guard" only fits the turbot though?! ........AFAIK the water ingress problem that requires the guard doens't affect NAs

Thanks for replies. I just read up the glowing reports on Monorep (which is about the same distance to me as Newbury), and decided to change to have my VX put into their capable hands instead! They confirmed that the Rain Rail only affects the Turbo. They also said they'd plug in and see if I needed the ABS upgrade or not. Sonded much better than the Newbury bloke - he was also very nice and asked how I was finding the car in general. Err, so this is kinda a redundant thread, as I'm not going to Newbury any more.

Aviod Newbury like the plague, they know fa about the vx. :beat: You donot need the cover for the spark plugs and if you do have it, it will foul the engine cover scratching the aluminium. thumbsup

Yeah that's what I was told by my local dealership as well, but it was only my perseverance and making them cross-check against the particular reference number that I'd been given form Vauxhall customer services did they reveal that it hadn't infact been done.

I've got to say that I haven't had a single ABS problem since, so if you're not 100% sure keep pushing to find out.

Well I went to Inchscape in the end as M4 J3 is just to far. Anyway still waiting for then to give me a final price for the service but I'm going to try to kick them down to £150. However they did say the breaks need replacing and want £600 for the pleasure. Bugger that thinks me. Local family garage has quoted £170 all in which I thought was a lot better Rus

The Newbury garage was Gurneys until March 2nd (+/- a day). Inchcape have now taken it over, and I think Gurneys are now solely in Benson. It could be that the person who said they had only been there for a couple of weeks was from another Inchcape, hence they probably didn't know what a VX was. I think most of the staff remained, although the sales manager moved to Benson. The work I've had done there has been fine, although getting the replacement stereo faceplate did take a long time.
