Recently I'd noticed that the inside edge of each of my front tyres was past the wear indicators, yet the outside and middle still had a chunky tread on it. I'd read on here that a few other people had had this problem, but I want to get things checked out before I shelled out on new rubber. Naturally I also began to feel / imagine (probably the latter :P ) that things weren't right with the car and it wasn't as composed as it had been. The car is now 2 years old with 19k on the clock so I figured now would be a good time for a check up. The Scottish Elise guys recommended Willie at CLCM in Edinburgh as the man with the kit, knowledge and experience to help me out so I made an appointment to go and see him. Initial impressions of his premises are decieving, as from the outside it looks like a normal backstreet tyre depot, but when you go inside you spot the very very expensive looking laser alignment kit. The set up took around 45 mins and Willie patiently explained what he was doing, and put up with my inane questions. He found the the rear drivers wheel had excessive toe in to he adjusted that back to Opel / Vaux / Lotus orignal spec. More interesting was the front wheels............Willie noted that they were *just* in spec, but seemed to have a bit too much toe-in....which was obviously causing the high wear rates. So, with my say so he moved them back towards the other end of the recommended range. He explained that this may mean that the car felt slightly less responsive (especially on new rubber) , but stressed that it was all about how the car felt to me and he offered to change the settings back If it wasn't too my liking. And the results ? I haven't had a chance to give the car a proper work out yet, but my blast home showed the car was slighly less nervous on the motorway, and I immediately felt that i the confidence to "lean" on the rear a bit more in tight corners. So far I can't detect any reduced responsiveness.....to me it just felt bang on and composed. Overally I'm really happy with the results and the piece of mind that its given me. I'm sure you could get someone to do the job cheaper (I paid £47 all in) but I'm happy to pay a bit more to get someone who's been doing it for years and comes highly recommended. thumbsup EDIT : Spelling ! :beat:

AFAIK Willie will set the car up to any setting you want.

His fancy gadget has all the factory settings stored in it, but I think he's been doing that sort of stuff for 20 odd years so he knows his stuff.

whytejon had the negative camber changed on his car after discussions with willie. Original thread > here <

I've kept everything as per spec, but my fronts now have a toe-in of 0.0 which is right on the limit of the vaux spec.

Feels superb ! thumbsup
