Going back onto a three day week again for the second time this year and being asked to carry on working five days for three days pay.  And having to pull out of going to the national thumbsdown

Put your old shocks back on and sell the Zeros , plenty spare cash for the National

I once worked 9 months without a day off Next day I got laid off No point in being supportive of the close business tbh, if they want 5 days work then they should pay you for it. I did the same once, bailed some doodah out by working 3 weeks on the understanding I would get paid after he settled his IVA. I earned him 100k which went straight to his creditors and I ended up with jack. Look after #1 I say, I'd be job hunting and taking the interviews on one of the three working days ;)

I can understand them asking you to work three days if times are tough and business thin on the ground etc.

But asking you to work five anyway seems wrong. If orders are low, then you shouldn't need to work the extra days. If there is enough work to want you to work 5 days, they should pay for it...

I guess you need to weigh up pros/cons of doing/not doing what they are 'requesting'. I assume it is all a bit informal, as I can't see how they can formally ask you to just work 2 days a week for free.

Any idea of how long they would want you to do this ?

Would management be taking the same hit ?

I agree. In theory I shouldn't be doing this. But I have a certain work ethic. I'll  just whatever is needed. No doubt I'm shafting myself and being taken advantage of. But the same principle would apply for whoever I worked for. I've a very strong work ethic. I've not had a day off sick in over 14 years of working. And I ALWAYS work more than my 40 hours a week.

As for management taking the hit. I am management, and we've all been asked to do it.

If you are management, then usually it's a fixed salary rather than an hourly rate isn't it ?

I'm not management, but on a salary. And expected to work 'whatever hours are needed'. But applied sensibly...

Strong 'paid for' work ethic is good. Otherwise, there are lots of volunteer organizations that would be happy to accept your help. Rather than line a company's pockets with unpaid work.

That's my thinking anyway. At the end of the day, I'm sure you will do what you think is in your best interests...

I am salaried. I'm contracted to 40 hours a week. But like yourself work what hours are needed within reason. I've already racked up 36 hours in three days this week

I don't do what's best for me,  but I do do what is best for the company.  More fool me I know.

If they are paying for 3/5ths of your time then they are breaching the contract and by that merit you only work 3/5ths time. If you do more in these times they will simply rape you if it ever gets good again. There is a time and a place for extra graft but when there is little to no renumeration (paid or otherwise) then you are a mug. The company is using you, its not part of the work karma.

Technically they aren't breaching my contract.  It is in there that they can reduce the hours to suit the business needs. Its the same for everyone there.  And I know I'm a mug.  Its not compulsory but it would be frowned on if we didn't do the extra days nd come potential redundancies the risk is increased.

What gets on my tits is royal mail , 1 week ago I sent my new v5c to dvla Swansea , 1st class recorded , but guess what .

when I type in my tracking number it states it is still at the post office were I posted it ,I went back to the post office but they had sent it so beware recorded mail is sent along with normal post and is not traceable until it arrives and is signed for ..

to be safe in the future use 24 hour tracked or special delivery

this is especially important as all dvla local offices are closing , and if you send your v5c of say with a retention certificate for a private plate you could have a lot of hassle on your hands

I have been told to fill in a v62 form and send my little green slip to dvla Swansea to get a new v5c ( no charge )

but if I didn't have the green slip they would charge £25

just don't trust recorded delivery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and oh god every parcel I get from ebay is sent by my hermes and they are proper useless but thats another thing !!!

Websites that say

'Read on for our review of...'

and

'Click 'Next' to read more of this article.'

Why do they do this? Would they write 'read on' in a book, or 'please turn over' at the end of every page?

The council have given up cutting the hedgerows on our little side road for a few years now. So each year I hire a strimmer and take the time to try improve the line of sight on the numerous bends. Neighbours out walking stop and comment,"needed doing, bloody council, almost hit so and so here last week, bla bla... Nobody ever helps..feckers!

Smart car drivers who pull out on you when you are taking over them to take over the car in front of them ,causing you to hit the brakes at 80 mph and swerving out of there way and doing a 360 spin in the middle of the road I was very very lucky .fucccking idiot :-(
