sofar this morning we have had the london fire brigade playing Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire with their campaign fire engine , and now students in the car park playing Kings Of Leon - Sex on Fire :)

The outcome from the weekend inferno and our disaster recovery yesterday was it took us 3 hours to get the server room down to a manageable temperature , as everything was heatsoaked and you could not touch anything metal in there. We are a VMware outfit and had most of our production servers available about 30 minutes after we first powered the kit back on.

/edit students taking the piss now , Bangles - Eternal Flame

/edit 2, Prodigy - Firestarter

/edit 3 , seems I blamed our students for the noise, but its the FBU outside

/edit 4 , now playing bagpipes music , *really very loud* , 'amazing grace' . that should annoy the councilors

thanks to the builders, over the weekend that turned off the aircon in my datacentre, this morning it was 55°C , and unsurprisingly all the HP servers are off. No idea how much damage has been done sofar , as until I can get the temperature back down , they won't power up.

Good thing the environmental monitoring alerted you... oh :P

Car ads that have a video that is just a video of the pictures in the ad. Why do they bother doing this - it adds absolutely no value at all - in fact, it's just annoying?

apt-get / grub has buggered up the boot config on a server at a remote site. I can get access to it with HP iLO , but the server has no network as its needs the qlogic firmware for the 10gbe nic , when we built the server we would have used the onboard 1gb nic to do all the updates and pull down the firmware .deb files

Knowing the general topic that is being discussed, but 'not having a foggiest' about the specific details. Last 7posts being examples.

F'in bad planning for lorry drivers & never anybody else available on shift to pick them up & they're 1 1/2 hrs from base & you should have an hour before you finish; but you end up being International rescue!

The lorry drivers don't plan their routes, it's the dodgy traffic managers that send them only "this far |<-------------->| " on a map

Sorry, that's what I meant to say. Talking to the driver coming back & I now know why it happens so often. Apparently our trucks must be able to travel consistently at 70mph & when they arrive at destination they get tipped as soon as they hit the bays.  LOL

Planning by someone that struggles to drive a car & only travels from home/work/home.
