for most people, switching to an apple mac will solve most of their computer woes long term as once you get used to them they're a lot less hassle, always a controversial thing to say, but i honestly believe its true and on christmas, im not religious to me it means the hassle of buying over priced tat, and receiving it, which involves horrible xmas shopping and it reminds me of being a student when i worked in dixons, christmas signified hell for 2 weeks, being pressured into working every day but xmas day ect, and i know its the same for most shop staff, horrible time of year, i thought it was widely accepted that if jesus did exist that he wasnt born on xmas day anyway? im a bahumbug lol though the world war one thing does always fascinate me :), thats a fabulous story, but a long long time ago

...so was that a backing down i see? (you only asked for one and the 'world war one thing' qualifies as that, regardless of how long ago.) thumbsup

I only ask because i like a challange and did at least try ;)

Edited to add..i agree regarding with what you've said by the way and i wasn't trying to be argumentative, it just seemed polite for at least one of us to accept your thrown down gauntlet thumbsup

...and on another note (aptly) what gets on my nerves (i'd so change that thread title if i were a mod) is my innability to get the ending of the theme music to topgear right when i whistle it to myself Posted Image (as i do because it's a catchy tune.) It all starts off right but always always finishes as the ending of the theme tune to rainbow..most annoying

friggin computers!

thumbsup to that. I'm still having an absolute nightmare of a time with this new laptop's cursor pad thingy. How the heck one is supposed to stop it wondering all over the screen via ones palm rubbing it and inadvertently either scrolling the screen down and interupting the key input or clicking a link on the page so all input to that point is lost i'll never know...most most most upsetting :beat: (wish my antique of an ibm with it's red dot still lived)

Aaaghhh!!! It wouldn't be a Dell Latitude E5500 would it? I'm suffering exactly the same problem! It's so friggin' annoying!!! :beat:

Does it also do that thing when you're scrolling down a page with the right-hand slide control that it increases or decreases the screen size all by itself???!! rant

I had that problem on an old lappy of mine... I think it was....control panel ===> mouse settings====>pointer settings====> hide pointer when typing that solved it. My current lappy came set to that anyways

No it's an acer extensa 5210 but obviously suffers from the same cursor pad problems (or more exactly, suffers us and our innability to use it properly ;) ) I've mentioned it before and tried what jules has so kindly mentioned but to no avail (still does the same) scolling the page all over the place ect ect :beat:

Does that size thing too, not always..which is annoying in itself because there are occassions where if i could control that action it'd come in use.

Oh well...we persevere :)

Thanks for trying though jules chinky chinky

I second that! I had these things buzzing round where I used to work all the time, they are horrid!! And there drivers thought they owned the place, when they really didnt. I had forgotten all about them until just then. Wonderful memories

I don't think i've laughed so much in one journey when I went to pick it up! It's like driving a bus, the steering wheel is huge! The only redeeming feature is that the heater works. I even had to give people a lift yesterday!

Waiting months and months and months and months to get a rear driver side wisdom tooth out. :ban: Meanwhile the "solpes" (the only painkiller that works) prevents me from gettin a nights kip. :drink: I'd rather be awake and pain free, than in bed, awake in epic agony.    During a period of pain retreat earlier, I almost crocked it! attempting half of a Walls Vienetta :beat:

Seems rather appropriate given we're post Christmas - childrens toy packaging!!! What the hell is wrong with a bit of bubble wrap and a sturdy box? Why does a Dora The Explorer action figure set require what amounts to DEFCON3 level of security....3 sets of Philips screws, about 10 metal wires (encassed in unbreakable plastic type covering) and then a liberal spread of industrial sticky tape for good measure :angry2:

Wasting reams of money on calls to under-staffed, inefficient call centres. Waiting for my call to be answered for 15 minutes and counting on a Pay As You Go mobile to British Gas

I just rung my insurance company and got straight through, was amazed :o! But I am currently on hold for my breakdown cover company, been 12 minutes so far  British Gas and BT have to be the worst two though :angry2:

Edit: Argh, finally got through, gave them all my details, asked them what I wanted to know and got told I needed to ring another department who she couldn't put me theough to, so now in another queue on a different number  wtf...

I think the worst are NatWest credit cards - I dread having to call them. It's at least 15 minutes each time... I do like having my insurance with a broker, I must say - you never have to wait for your call to be answered, and you can ring them up with any question about your policy - rather than ploughing through the Ts & Cs yourself thumbsup
