I've been looking around for ideas for a front splitter for a while now. The criteria I had in mind were: - about 60mm deep - flexible enough to absorb impacts from kerbs and speed bumps (for when I lower my car) - cheap (ie. replaceable) - readily available - ideally fit without any major modifications The previous model Astra G, looked to have one that was just about ideal. So, I picked one up from my local Vauxhall dealer to try it out. I've not got round to refitting the clam yet - got a few other jobs to sort in the next few weeks - but here's some pics of the splitter mounted on the clam. Literally took 1/2 hour to fit.

A close up. It comes in 2 sections, is 60mm deep at the sides and 35mm deep at the centre, and cost £30 per side.

And from the side. The fit is almost millimetre perfect. You'd never believe it was not made for the VX.

And a close-up of the fittings. I drilled 10 pilot holes in the clam and used screws with fasteners on the inside, and a couple of pop rivets in the existing splitter holes on the outer fittings. It is made out of rubber, so should stand up to minor impacts pretty well. And at £30 a side, no big deal to replace every now and then. Pretty pleased with the results. I don't expect much difference in performance, not at least till I fit Nitrons or Ohlins later in the year, but every little helps.

Ricky, all base model Astras have these. Vauxhall part numbers, 90546957 and 90546958.

Astra G's the previous model 98-04 so should have been in the brakers for awhile now

Looks good off the car Gary but don't forget the bottom of the clam is not parallel with the road when it's fitted to the car. From the front of the wheelarch it rises, to the front of the car. My airdam is tapered to account for this, which I think works well - the lower edge of the airdam when viewed from the side is parallel with the road. Yours might look OK I dunno. Apart from that though it looks like a brilliant solution. Will you post some pics when the clam is on the car?

Cool Gary, just ordered mine from Monorep - they are in stock. Picking them up on Friday to play with on Saturday. What fixings did you use? Plasic ones that may give under imact or metal ones? Where did you get them from? Thanks for you ingenuity. Wanted some scrivets too as I am missing 3 but changed my mind..... £5 each
