I just used screws and fixings from Halfords. Those little metal squares with the screw hole in them.

Nice. I've just picked mine up. Will get fixings soon and will fix on Saturday. I have offered them up already and agree with you that you get away with the slope: They are slightly moulded to fit a slope. I think that the bottom side will not be exactly parallel to the road but it will be close enough for me as to make no difference unless you measure it IMO. A quick related question - What is the procedure for removing the turbo splitters. If I get them off in one piece the first to PM me can have them if they pay the postage or pick them up. Andrew PS Forgot to mention that I have a Monorep loyalty card for buying the car new - so got 10% off. Both side £57incl. B)

The turbo splitters are fixed with 3 plastic rivets. You can either use a centre punch to knock the centre pin through from the outside of the clam, or with the clam removed, pull the pin out from the rear using pliers. Once the centre pin has been removed, the splitter and outer part of the rivet should pull away from the clam thumbsup

I think you're right Gary, it looks good. I'm very impressed. My splitter has been scraped so many times now it's looking very secondhand. It needs a repaint. No problems with a rubber one though.

It might be possible to fit with the clam in place. You can get access to the outer fixings through the headlamp recess or by removing the wheelarch liner. The problem will be securing the splitter at the centre, behind the no. plate. Its a very tight squeeze but you may be able to reach from the headlamp area. If not, it took me 1.5 hrs to remove and 2 hrs to refit the clam.

I have just had a good look around the front. I think it will be next to impossible to get the reach through the headlight hole. I am not too keen about removing the clam. Can I just drill and use scrivets or is clam off the only real solution?

it may help if you unclip the front wheel arch liners....this will give you more access.

No need to remove the clam. Mine was fitted to the car when it was on the ramps. 1/2 hour job at the most.

Remove front section of wheel arch liners

Mark holes

Drill holes

Fix and bolt outer part of splitter (do not fully tighten)

Fix and bolt remaining bolts.

Adjust splitter and tighten all fixings

Replace front section of wheel arch liners

Job done thumbsup

Looks good! Despite not actually owning a VX yet :( I'm already thinking about what I will do to it! Is that the mount for the silver front 'V' or an aftermarket one? I think it looks much better in black although presumably its straight forward to spray the existing one. Oh and can you remove the griffin badge seperately from the 'V'? and no its not because i don't like the fact it's a vauxhall!

Have you noticed any improvement in the handling?

Took it out for the first time on Saturday. I didn't expect to notice much difference running at standard ride height, but the increase in front downforce is pretty apparent at motorway speeds.

When travelling in a straight line, my NA was a little jittery at speed over small bumps and surface changes. The front splitters and suspension on my VXT improved this, but it always felt a little oversprung on very small bumps - as though the dampers were too soft over the first inch of travel. The Astra splitter seems to tie the front of the car down a little better. Feels like each side has a 20-30kg weight over the wheel arch, and helps the damper to counter-act the spring on very small bumps.

I've not tried out the handling properly yet, but even at 8 or 9/10ths on motorway slips, I could feel the car pivot a little forward of it's usual position. (The Craner Curves must have been pretty scarey with that mahoosive splitter and no rear wing John!! )

As Thorney said earlier, I'll need to work on the rear downforce to get an ideal balance. But the splitter should help me get more grip from the 205 front tyres on low to medium speed bends. Just need to practice catching the tailslides at 100mph until I can sort the rear :D

Can that be right???? Might need some bigger bolts then. Waiting for some to be delivered and will fit this weekend.

Totally subjective, but it does feel more stable at the front. Fixings shouldn't be a problem though. Any increase in downforce will be a result of the air flowing over and under the car, so the splitter will not bear that load. Just as long as it stays attached at high speed. Mine is fine thumbsup
