Vauxhall have asked dealers to check the timing chains on vx220 2.2 which have VIN numbers from 1N000145 - 1N001492, as there is a small chance of a problem. Its not a recall, just a check that will need to be carried out when your car is next in the dealers, but I think its worth getting it booked in to be checked asap.

I wonder if Friendly_chap may be a popular VX dealer? ;) :D Anyone know roughly what reg these VIN numbers were around, and where I can find the VIN number?!

I got the info from a friendly VX dealer, and I doubt any VX dealer will ever log on again after the way that nice young man was treated in a previous thread.

Balls - I'm almost certain mines in the 1N00008xx range, and I thought I was hearing something a little odd very occationally from the engine, but decided it must be just because I'd got the stereo turned down for once that I was noticing. Any hints on what the problem might be? Dan

FriendlyChap...

Does VIN numbers 1N000145 - 1N001492 mean build numbers 145-1492? Mines 1420 (Y-reg, June 2001) I think so I guess I shall pop down and get it checked. Can you inform your friendly dealer friend that I wouldn't mind an ABS upgrade whilst I'm there as it has been annoying me a bit recently.

cheers

Jase

Forgot to ask - any checkup that might be needed. Would this be done free of charge by a dealer do you suppose, or am I likely to have to pay for it? Dan

Yep - should be... (Now, there's a thought... I wonder what else I could get looked at whilst I'm there! ;))

Actually, I do need something doing - the plastic cover for the seatbelt restraint (at shoulder level) has broken on the drivers side, and the metal's now on show. It's not exactly vital, but if I'm going to be around anyway I'll ask that they fix that (assuming they've got the bits in stock).

My car is in this range and I have always had a little drive chain rattle, I was told by the mechanic that its not an issue but if it gets louder it is, and its a engine out 2 day jobbie. Just as well I am bringing the car back to the UK next month for its annual service, will defo get this checked while its still under warranty. John.

Oh bugger. Well, let's hope my rattles fall into the 'acceptable' range then, although I know I'll be constantly worrying about it once the thing's out of warranty so maybe it's better if the thing gets sorted!

I don't want to spend a few days knocking around in a Corsa though!

Mine is as well, but surely if the Vin numbers run in sequence this problem would affect pretty much every car built !

Or is someone having a wind up ?

Not a wind up - Just rang my service dept and got it confirmed. They are ordering me the ABS upgrade so will be a couple of weeks before I get it looked at.

Beergut. Really, ring your service dept, ask them about the recall on the 22xe engine, I think they have to change the timing chain. Its no wind up. The VIN's will run in sequence, but will include opels aswell. Let us know what they say when youve rang them, mate., cheers

My car's 1639 and my timing-chain still rattles on over-run, so it's probably not that?

Hi Are we sure this is not a wind up??? Thorney can we get a direct contact at Vauxhall to review some of these issues. Luckily my car is an early one and so should not suffer - how come this problem only occurred after build 145 and not before? Are all Vauxhall models with the 2.2 fitted effected or only VX220s? We need real facts on this website from a reliable source rather than some anon (although friendly chap!) message trying to panic us all. Please reveal your source friendly chap to give us some confidence in your statements. Can Wayne comment on this issue? He seems to be the only Vauxhall source/ dealer on this site. (and so far seems pretty reliable.....) Mike
