We need real facts on this website from a reliable source

Why don't you just ring up Vauxhall if you want facts? That's what I did, took 2 minutes to confirm the recall and book it in.

Beergut.

Really, ring your service dept, ask them about the recall on the 22xe engine, I think they have to change the timing chain. Its no wind up.

The VIN's will run in sequence, but will include opels aswell.

Let us know what they say when youve rang them, mate., cheers

Will do friendly, I've got to give them a bell anyway in the next week. Mate's got the VX at the mo to fix the damage I did last week running into some old dears rear end

Looks like a lot of cars with the prob though

According to the service booklet, my VIN is 1N002090. I guess mine must have been shipped pretty much straight out of the factory to the dealer?

Mine's build number 87, so I guess it should be OK. However I'm due for it to be serviced and I'll get it checked JIC

More details, for those that are interested: I had the car booked in with Crownhill to give it a once over this Saturday, and they've just called me. They've looked it up on the system, and it will definitely need fettling - they've ordered some new bits for me, and until they arrive there's not much point in me making the trek over there. They can't say how long it'll be before the bits arrive, as they're lots of people need them at the moment! I was told that it'd be a 2-3 day job. :( Once again, Crownhill have proved themselves to be well on top of the whole service side of things, from Wayne calling me to tell me that he'd checked his records and that the car I'd bought would need a check up through to them calling today to tell me not to bother travelling as they wouldn't have the parts. It's probably the first time a garage has bothered to tell me this before I've arrived! :) I was told it's fine to drive the car in the meantime, and that it's just a precautionary measure on Vauxhall's part. Thanks to all at Crownhill so far - doubtless I'll be back here complaining that I'm driving a Corsa whilst the work's being done! Dan

Just a question... I'm in France, my Speedster is #826 and its VIN is right in the range (1N001076). Is there an official Vauxhall recall about this? What's the reference number? Should be R/2003/something ?

Well, while I'm at it, anyone has the phone number of Vauxhall? I may phone them directly and ask for information...

Just ask your dealer. Mine is booked in for 2 days in a couple of weeks. (chassis number 1314) They didn't know about it but when away and checked with Vauxhall. Rang me back in about 10 minutes with a suggested date and prebooked courtesy car. Can't complain at that...

Well, they're not aware about the problem at all... Neither is Opel France for that matter :(

And they cannot take my car until the end of August now... Fact is, my chain does rattle a lot, especially at low RPM.

Picked my car up yesterday after it had it's rear clam replaced after a little accident and asked about the recall. Was very surprised to find out that: 1. They knew about the recall. 2. They had already carried out the work whilst the car was in the bodyshop. For once, my dealer has actually managed to do something right.

Just rang them to confirm the details. Timing chain was replaced on 25th July, actually before this thread started and we were aware of a potential problem <_<

I need to go lie down somwhere, cant believe my dealer was super efficient for a change

Considering i've been driving an Astra for the last two weeks it's hard to tell if the engine feels/sounds any different. Will do some decent mileage this weekend to check B)

Awaiting a call back from the service manager to get the full details. Will advise if they did it as a recall or whether just as a precaution.

As friendly chap stated I believe, its not a recall, its called a product integraty rework, the ref is 03P24-06/2003. Hope this helps.

Do you know if any of the Lightenings are affected. These seem to have a different chassis code to the ones quoted but must have bben manufactured during 2001
