Paul. I've checked the L/yellows that we sold, and as far as I can tell they were all built later, VIN should be 1N003000 onwards, so I think youll be okay, Have also checked yours VEX, R3D VX & P11 COV, your okay. Only ones affected in this area are Jasemk & Danl, that I can see so far, so I dont think this is a huge problem, although time consuming for those affected, I think its worth getting the work carried out, just in case. Thanks for response. I didn't explain myself well in the orig post. My VIN number starts 2N so i guess this and the fact that it's build number 3158 means that it's Ok

News from France... GM France is aware about the problem and is considering whether to organise a recall for it. I phoned them yesterday morning and they rang me back in the afternoon. Thanks to all, you've been very helpful.

its not a recall, its called a product integraty rework, the ref is 03P24-06/2003.

A "product integrity rework"

Translated into normal english this literally means, " We've made something that we know isn't right - it could fall apart, so we should do some work on it".

IMHO that is pretty much a reason for an official recall. Of course, a recall to correct a product fault must be carried out for free. If GM in the UK are saying it's not a recall, are they just trying to avoid paying for it??? :(

Would really like to hear from someone who is informed just what the problem actually is!

My Speedster here in Switz. is in the affected build number range - not heard a dickybird from Opel Suisse. As it's now over two years old and only came with a one year warranty, it certainly won't be done under guarantee. :(

Very intersted to hear if Opel France announce an official recall – keep us posted idletask, 'cos if they do, I'll have some leverage here with GM.

Ricky, are you affected by this – any news from Italy?

apparently not, my car is VIN 3347..... :jump:
Opel dickheads always bragged about their "smaller" and "lighter" servicing-free transm. chain...... yeah, maybe if you drive like a grandma.....bollocks.... <_<

still, have a hard time to believe that could be an engineering weakness.....on such a small number of engines....more like a faulty batch maybe...

YAY! The recall has made its way to France AT LAST! Maybe it's because I phoned GM France twice to talk about this problem... Anyway, the dealer phoned me and told me the recall would be performed under warranty... Now I'm waiting for them to phone me back for an appointment... Looks like I was the only French owner concerned by this, so this is very, very good news! Thank you all for all the information I could get and feed GM France with... It probably helped them making the recall...

Forgot to ask - any checkup that might be needed. Would this be done free of charge by a dealer do you suppose, or am I likely to have to pay for it?

Dan

presume its still under the 3 year warrenty??

Yep - should be... (Now, there's a thought... I wonder what else I could get looked at whilst I'm there! ;))

Actually, I do need something doing - the plastic cover for the seatbelt restraint (at shoulder level) has broken on the drivers side, and the metal's now on show. It's not exactly vital, but if I'm going to be around anyway I'll ask that they fix that (assuming they've got the bits in stock).

Dan

I've been waiting since May for FG Barnes in Guildford to get me a replacement for the offside seatbelt cover!

One call to Vauxhalls customer helpline change of dealer and the car goes in to have it replaced (amongst other things) this Thursday in Chichester.

No worries - Corwnhill did it FOC when it was in for the timing belt change... Not broken it again yet, but I can see how the previous owner had snapped his - it does tend to snag the seatbelt on mine... Dan

Well well well... Other news... Another Speedster is concerned in France but the dealer did NOT receive the notice, unlike mine, its VIN being W0L0EAR971N000932... I'll keep you informed...
