My clutch return spring gave up the ghost earlier this year. I was powering past a line of traffic at the time and the noise had me half convinced that something expensive had let go in the engine department. I carefully checked the feel of the car and everything seemed to be working. I then figured that I must have run over something in the road and wondered if I'd damaged the floor tray. I didn't find the broken spring on the floor for a couple of days. Gun shot is a good description for the noise.
I described the spring to the technical department at Lotus and they identified it as the clutch pedal return spring. They told me that it shouldn't make any difference to the function of the car at all but it would be worth getting it fixed sometime so the clutch hydraulics don't have so much to do. I drove without it for about three months.
I had around 10k miles on the clock when the spring failed.

My clutch pedal return spring went a couple of days ago. I figured I could easily get a new one from any Vauxhall dealer that services VX220. I know the parts numbers for the old and new style return springs and everything!
How wrong I was.
I've now phoned all the dealer's in Kent and they act as if they have never heard of one and certainly don't keep any in stock. It seems I have to wait ages while they source one and have it delivered etc. No doubt they will try to charge me about £7 for something that should cost a few pence.
Does anyone know any parts or VX220 specialists in Kent that aren't crap?
