If you pull on the handbrake cables at all it tightens up the mechanism. i had it after changing my clutch, had the take the pads out and wind the pistons back and stick it together again

Well that was easy. It took 15min. and was mostly as a result of the stupidity of the user.

Details for others would be useful.

Wasn't something as simple as misaligment in the hub, or forgot that the adjuster on the passenger side needs to be fed through the bracket to allow effective adjustment

Because the handbrake cable had been released, the ends of the cables at the caliper ends had managed to slip out of their sockets. Upon re-tention of the cable, they didn't seat back completely. That was the slight issue and released the handbrake a little, i still took the pads out and wound the calipers and that put it back to where it was to start with.

JG your car is the cleanest I've seen! Amazed!! Question..... What products would you recommend to totally clean mine to a super standard...? I always used Autoglym EGP and Victoria Wax on my VXR with it's deep red finish and that would come up lovely but with mine being such a weird yellow I was wondering if you knew of a wax that would suit me better...?

Here we go then: Usually goes along these lines depending what i can be bothered to do. Sometimes do all, sometimes a combination. Though just cleaning and waxing is fine for protection and making cleaning easy and will give much much better results than just cleaning, For ultimate shine it's all about prep, doesn't really make any difference what end sealer/wax you use (the big difference is in application ease) I find it all quite relaxing, and it can be a pretty good workout too. :D Wheels: Clean with Zymol car cleaner Dodo lime prime clean once or twice a year Dodo lime prime lite every other clean or so Meguars Tech 2 wax because of its artificial polymers which seem to resist brake dust best. Tyres: Swisswax Pneu, doesn't make them shinny, just clean Suspension/exposed chassis: ACF-50, used as cleaner rather a coating Meguars soft wax on some painted elements such as ARBs, Brakes: 3in1 heavy duty decreaser Windows: Autoglym Glass Polish Body: Clear with Zymol car cleaner Dodo Lime Prime Lite or Lime prime similar to wheels Then seal with dodo blue velvet (jimmy you'd be better off with Banana Armour - great for lighter cars) Every other clean i use just a quick detailer and that can sometimes give the best results of all (if it is done soon after the above) Exhaust/rocker cover Autoglym metal polish Rest of engine Gunk engine degreaser (makes a real mess) Undertrays: ACF-50 Diffuser: Meguars spray wax My aim is to get to a point where working on the car never gets my hands dirty  Think i'm nearly there as there aren't many places i haven't been.

And then my other advice is cheat once in a while and get a pro to do it.

Actually i've overtaken them in most regards (they are crap at doing things like wheels IME), due mostly to the fact their insurances don't cover them for jacking cars.

But i'd still rather use them for machining with VX paint.

Shine on working on the car in 2009:

DoDo juice redmist is probably the best product I've used on my cars. Great detailer and has waxing qualities which always help. Smells lush and easy to put down. Only problem is its so bloody expensive!
