Cool! My first personalised post!! :D Nice project that one, don't let my dad see! It's hard to tell in those pics, need some close up of the wishbones and front chassis. It will need the following: * Front clam, obviously (I've paid as little as £175 and as much as £500. * Headlight and fog light obviously! Price massively varies 2nd hand on eBay but around £700 new and £100 for the fog * CF Crash box - can't remember but I think they are £600-700 new, but I got one for £150 second hand * Radiator housing - £200 ish new * Raidiator - £200 ish new * Radiator hose - £30 * Alarm siren if required will be around £100 I think * Anti roll bar? dunno how much * Wishbone? Get one from a breakers for not a lot * Inner arch liner - £70 new Wouldn't have thought there would be much more to do. Almost all these parts can be sourced second hand. Check eBay, Vauxhall Spares Centre, Parts Gateway and Inta Part for availibility and prices. Would be a good idea to get some prices on 2nd hand bits first and create a budget. Try to stick to it and it should be a bargain! Looks a nice car anyway and minimal damage. All of mine have had front and rear damage! Get the wheel checked too, probably nothing wrong with it but most wheel/tyre places should check it for you. Labour and paint costs vary loads so can't help you out on that one. Would like to add that these prices were off the top of my head, so nobody shoot me for getting them wrong as I haven't got a very good memory!

Oh, is the windscreen ok? Sometimes the bonnet gets pushed back and smashes the screen. I paid £238 each on two of my cars fitted. Oh, and also should get that done in a couple of days if you really get stuck in! Hardest bit will be getting that old cf crash box off! It's stuck on really well and requires a lot of cutting and snapping! It's easy enough to glue the new one on, it's just black windscreen adhesive, this will cost £30 for the kit including the glue, primer and nozzle. You will need a skeleton gun, some G clamps and molegrips! Also make sure that the wishbone mounts are ok and don't appear to have moved. Check all the glue (red) around the front part of the chassis, as cracks in the glue obviously indicate movement in the chassis. Also check the anti roll bar mountings are ok

ive not done a cat D..... but if i was going to do one, I'd go and take a VERY close look at it before i chanced it The most important photo on that site is the one thas so small you cant make out where the damage is.... some good advice though dan....gotta temper it with some up front viewing though surely?

TBH, i'm surprised its a CAT C, looks more like a D. I've bought worse damaged NA's for more than 6k. Expect the bidding to get up to around this figure or more. If no one else wants it my dad does! He really wants a Turbo after driving Picadors one! Gotta be worth putting a bid in though, good luck. Oh and I'd recommend hving a good look at it and take your camera (some salvage yards dont allow cameras) anything you're unsure about let us see the pics.

Is it me, or on the inside pic, does it look like the dash has moved over to the right of the steering wheel... seems to not join properly, like its shifted inside. Christ, that silver VX went for 6k?! Looks totally knackered, front ends oblitorated and the back wheel looks knackered pretty badly too

I saw that too. It doesn't look right, but there's no way that accident could have caused damage shown in the dash. Maybe it's been taken off for inspection and bodged back on?!

The one on my old vxt was like that from new, but on the other side. Apparently they have a tendency to warp, so not necessarily anything to worry about.

the fixings are really poor, self tapping screw through a thin piece of metal, which is fixed to the sponge like filling inder the dash. All the early cars had warping dash tops, nothing to worry about Tony

Tony

Ah right!

So wouldnt a smash as bad as the ones in the pics mess the chassis up at all... they all look quite serious...

No, I've repaired worse! The carbon fibre crash box is a really big crumple zone. All the impact is absorbed by this crumpling. The subframe is constructed with boxes and is incredibly strong.

Posted Image

This is what my dads looked like before the rebuild, with the radiator and housing removed. As you can see, the damage is almost exactly the same and the carbon fibre crash box has taken a lot of the damage and impact. The radiator and housing also usually takes a bashing. It always looks a lot worse with the clam on! See the second pic below!

The only thing to look out for in terms of chassis damage, are the wishbone mounts and the anti roll bar mounts.
