Yeah but your Dad's one still has all its wheels in tact... unlike that silver one, where 2 of the wheels are totally knackered... surely that'll have damaged something pretty important?!No, I've repaired worse! The carbon fibre crash box is a really big crumple zone. All the impact is absorbed by this crumpling. The subframe is constructed with boxes and is incredibly strong.
This is what my dads looked like before the rebuild, with the radiator and housing removed. As you can see, the damage is almost exactly the same and the carbon fibre crash box has taken a lot of the damage and impact. The radiator and housing also usually takes a bashing. It always looks a lot worse with the clam on! See the second pic below!
The only thing to look out for in terms of chassis damage, are the wishbone mounts and the anti roll bar mounts.
How hard was it to get all the parts for the cars you're rebuilding? As I've heard of people waiting months for headlights, which makes me somewhat worried about getting a VX as my daily driver, as currently, if I crashed my Focus I could go out and buy a new front end from the local Ford parts place and have it fixed by the end of the day!!

Ah right, that silver one's front wheel is hanging off... surely thats a pretty big problem?!eBay Most parts were new, but things like headlights and tail lights we got second hand, there's loads on eBay. Another car we did had bent wheels, the rear is really easy as the wishbones attached to a bolted on rear subframe which crushes on impact and is really easy to replace. Then it just needs new wishbones. The front is a bit more serious as the wishbones attach directly to the chassis, so bent wheels may mean the mounts have moved in the chassis
So why have so many of you got to use brand new parts? Don't insurance let you use your own parts... it'd save them alot of money!!
