First was to park up on a high kerb and do the down facing door so that gravity would want to hold the captive plate against the hole.

Which end/side of the car was highest?

Does this mean I have to get an accursed eBay account :)

Ben

I parked the near side up on the kerb and did the off side door, then moved the car so the off side wheels were on the kerb and did the near side door. Looking at it, parking downslope (Front of car pointing downhill) if you can would be just as good if not better?

You could email Nigel on nigelkeech@yahoo.co.uk and ask about direct selling. It's worth doing through eBay though. Much easier all round. thumbsup

Chaps, I am genuinely chuffed that my product is meeting or exceeding your expectations, at the end of the day I am an owner enthusiast like your goodselves so know first hand what its like. I also feel that the difference it makes to the perceived integrity of the car is amazing, unbelievable that Lotus havent bothered to address this ! Thanks again Nigel

My door pins arrived on Friday so fitted them over the weekend. I bought two strong magnets and they held everything in position while i removed the old pin and simply screwed the new one in, job done!! 10 mins in all thumbsup I didnt need to use any of the washers. The doors have a good feel to them now especially when closing. When i went for a blast... no door rattles!! B) ive had an annoying rattle which i haven't been able to source and presumed it was the door pins.. this has now gone thumbsup all i can hear now is the hard top creak where the panel with 3 bolts, bolts into the hardtop, abit of triflow should cure that! cheers for Nigel for getting these pins made up! If you don't have these GET SOME!! Cheers Nick chinky chinky

Sorry to bump the thread but just intalled mine and they are brilliant - took me about 5 minutes - must be a slightly different setup that the VX. No more rattles and the doors make a satisfying clunk when they shut! top marks thumbsup

Hi Oblomov, Nah, I haven't carpetted the whole garage. Just where the VX goes. It deserves the best! Steve

Yup I've just fitted the driver's side and it's a revelation. Nice reassuring clunk when you close the door and rattle free at speed. Top mod thumbsup thumbsup

Passenger door already had a problem with the lock so I'll need to get that adjusted before replacing the door pin.

(I had 3 washer on the drivers side originally and now I'm using 2.)

Bought a pair of these pins and fitted them this week. Top quality gear thumbsup Took the opportunity to fit while the seats and rear trim were out and I just wanted to thank Steve for his comprenensive fitting guide. thumbsup Took me five minutes each side and I have to say I was fortunate and had no problems and could have done it without the trim/seats out. I would suggest that if you're going to fit them, you try without removing seats and trim and be prepared for the fact you might have to remove seats and trim if circumstances conspire against you, and the Law of the Sod intervenes. They really are a very precise fit thumbsup Definitely worth getting :D

Did the door pins today, was waiting till I had the parcel shelf out but thought 'to hell with it', and got out the 17mm spanner. :D Nothing fell down, and just needed to take away one washer on each side. The drivers side was a bit of a sod screwing the new pin in, but the doors close more firmly now. Will have a drive tomorrow to see if the passenger rattle has gone. But found a paint blister on the drivers side in the crease below the fuel filler :( I don't think it's recent as the car is garaged it. Put some lacquer on it just in case...

Some more of these being made up >for a Pistonheads group buy<

Dont be mad £25, go to Peninsula and ask for mk 2 door pins they will fit and work, been doing it for years, early cars did not have them fitted, ps a lot cheaper too.

The Ebay ones are bigger than the later 10mm door pins on the S2. (early S2 ones like the S1 are 8mm) Especially the end pieces are much larger, giving the lock a much bigger area to rest on and fixating the door a lot more securely.

Mine rattled a lot on the locks with the bigger S2 pins, but a set of the Ebay ones and some careful fitting/adjusting has totally quietened it down.

No more clunks and rattles from the doors.

Bye, Arno.

Ben

Had these sitting in the garage for the last six months and hadn't bothered to fit. Fitted them today and what a dramatic improvement. Thought I had a rattling window on the driver side but everything is now quite and rattke free. Best of all it only took 5 minutes to do the lot. Very happy :-)
