Finished work early today so thought Id install my new shiny Badass engine covers. Took about an hour. The hardest part was fitting the manifold cover.

Hopefully this mod will preserve my ECU, Throttle sensors, and electrial connections from water ingress.

The next thing im doing [on the weekend] is fitting the VXL VXT Water Ingress Kit to protect my coilpacks and sparks - Yes I know it doesnt fit the NA!!!!! But luckily I have a way of fitting it without any problems

Although that does mean the Badass covers wont be AS visable from outside the lid. TBH I didnt buy it for a pretty looking engine but to eliminate water ingress.

Sorry about the quality of pics but was pitch black once I had finished!

Yep could do with a clean! But as long as its working 100% I dont care - It is covered with WD40 at the mo

wont they restrict heat removal from engine bay?

Doubt it as it there is loads of ventilation in and around the engine. Better than having to buy a new ECU - and having throttle sensor/other problems!!!

So Chris Are you going to write a guide, so that others that might have already purchased and those that are thinking of purchasing could actually fit both parts Or is it to be the best kept secret?? ?? Andy

Given the profile of the covers, wont the water just run down the side of the head anyway?

Yes they will - The mani cover is just for show

The ECU cover completely protects all components from water. The water just runs off avoiding electrical components! It also protects from dew and damp.


How to fit the Mani cover:-

This involves drilling the clam so be carefull. Drilling takes place on the recess between the boot compartment to the engine.

1] Place the cover over this section and mark out where your going to drill holes. Make sure you position it so that its not too close to the engine as if its too close it will vibrate.

2] Drill out holes with a sufficient size drill bit [dont know what size I used was dark!]

3] Silde cover underneath the recess section.

4] This is the hard bit!!!! One by one you need to fit the bolts. You have to make sure you dont drop them into the engine bay as its undertray off job!

5] Buy some rubber sheaths to cover the nuts - if your worried about how bare nuts look like in your engine bay

6] Polish and admire!

I've got these !!!!!!!!! The injector cover was easy enough but I don't think I've got enough joints in my fingers and a contorted enough spanner to fit the bolts in the manifold cover. I thought of bonding the bolts (or nuts) to the underside of the cover but if they break loose, how would I ever get them out again?? I can see this is an exercise in lateral thinking. Think I need to go and have a lay down, my brain hurts !!!!!!!!!! Graham.

Its not that hard I used the bolt underneath the cover held it in place with my finger then screwed on the nut with my other hand! If you drop it it will mean you having to loosen the undertray bolts to fish it out. Have you actually had a go? As you might be surprised with how easy it may be!

I have a question!

I've got the covers at home but not fitted them yet. If the Manifold cover is just for show I might not bother with it, but how did you fit the ECU cover? I've got no instructions

Also, does the Vauxhall ingress kit add more protection that the Badass ones?

Fitted in Feb. The manifold cover is a pain in the arse at the right hand end (no space for ya fingers). I got both for £50 of Ebay (actually from the BadAss people - so could not understand how they were charging £50 just for the electrics cover alone) bargin!.

Anyways just adding to the thread. Once clean (lol mine are badass dirty atm) they look nice through rear vents.

Useful pics! Did you get instructions with your kit? I don't have any (as far as i remember..) Are you fitting the Vxl ingress kit too? Will that protect the engine more?

I have just been reading Chris's parallel post about the ingress kit. I would get it but only once it has been developed for our version. It seems like to much of a chew on to fit. Also unless you epox the screw on the left hand edge then they will no doubt work lose after decent mileage under engine vibration. I dont have water problems (as yet) and my car is outside all the time. If it does develop a problem then maybe then i will look at it. Also I like to see the engine through the vents My covers did not come with instructions but the guy was very helpful by way of e-mail. Craig

Am I alone in thinking a spray of WD40 is pretty good at keeping moisture off componants and lets the heat out ?

i have been using wd40 every week or two and have had no problems, although the car is garaged when not in use.
