Looks like he has junked the standard DIS and coils. You can see two coils mounted externally on the left side with plug leads running under the standard coil pack cover. One of my future mods, intend to connect some MSD coils to my MSD DIS-2. He has also maintained the standard ECU. The Emerald is mounted behind it.

Yep but why ?

Emerald ECU's cannot deal with the DIS ?

I do not understand where is the interest on replacing the DIS with a standard ignition system ?

Well - Something like the MSD DIS-2 gives a better/stronger spark plus a longer spark duration than a standard DIS pack. With the extra air and fuel in the cylinder it could be a good route to take. Also he probably wants to program his own timing table and unless he has the software to program the standard ECU (highly unlike coz he is running with an Emerald) it take a bit of rewiring and jigging about with the standard DIS and coil pack :P

Got Ians car back here for further testing. THe good news is that we've got round the manifold issue as it turns out Ians car was a bit sick before we got the TB kit on (even with broken rockers it made 160bhp  ) so we're installing the Schrick cams and then moving to final mapping. A stage 3 TB kit (with cams) is likely to be around 230bhp and a stage 1 (bolt on TB kit on its own - stock engine) around 190bhp. Although these are still theoretical figures. Time wise, we're looking at 1 week to complete the engine work then another week down at Webber for testing and its a done deal. Not easy getting it done seeing as we're booked up in the workshop until mid July now but we're working week ends on it now :drink:

Thorney How have you found WEBCON? A few years ago many people were getting very pi**ed off with them  as they couldn't seem to supply replacement parts for there ALPHA injection systems and letting lots of people down. This was a few years ago I hope things have improved! Cheers Oakmere

Yeah, there was an MBO a few years back so things appear to have changed. They've been brilliant tbh, very comitted to the project and keen to help out. They're very busy which has slowed the project down a little but other than that - very good.

hmm intresting. are you messing about with the std ecu to keep the fly by wire or have you installed some scary routed throttle cable setup?(or kinda nicked an omega's cruise motor lol) i was under the impression that jenvey make 99% of the TB's for the UK market but hey ho. what head work is required to hit the 230 mark? or is it on stock head castings etc...

We use the Alpha N ECU (standard ECU is junked) but keep fly by wire. We're still sorting final testing and specs....but it'll be worth it I'm sure of that.

Isn't alpha-n only a method of how an ECU calculates the amount of fuel to inject? As far as I understand usually used on cars with individual throttle bodies..
What kind of ECU are you using?

Cheers,

Mark

Hi John,

Will you be supplying this kit for self-install?

I'd imagine so, although the ECU will need mapping professionally.

It would be rude not to have these for self install... :beat:

Sounds like the throttle bodies are getting more costly by the minute. Hope I have a chance in hell of being able to afford it :(

looks that way!

Time has moved on, we got any up to date information yet. As you can see I keep coming back and still nothing!!!

Hows it looking with this kit for the moment, any news?

I believe that the TB's are to be unvieled at the National Meet thumbsup

Sadly I will be in the Scottish Highlands on a Japanese tourist style week long tour of Scotland in the vx! I would have liked to have seen the TB's at the National :(
