We've hired three more technicians so our leadtimes(and delays) should come down now so the plan is to strip the TB can engine (something wrong with its bottom end) and then rebuild it with the TB back on. Then we'll use that as a demonstrator/courtesy car :) The kits are now in build (save for the plenum box which needs a few minor tweaks) then we'll fit the first 3 kits to race cars and use those as the fitting diagrams. Once thats done the kits can be released so we're looking at December (my best guess). Most of the delays nwo are actually due to the fact that paying customers take priority over development and we're booked up for weeks hence the more staff.

Hi John,

Once they are available in self fit kit's what level of machanical competency would you need to install it. On a scale of 1-10 lets say?

Thanks

John, is this something your average DIY mechanic could install? If so I'll try and find one ;)

Would the car look too modified and would it gain to have intakes mounted on a snorkel, like some of the MR2 tuners do?

Would there be any gain doing this?

Test have shown that to get any gain from a snorkel or air scoop (positive air pressure) you need to be travelling at over 160mph  That said you do get all the benefits of all that cold air thumbsup

I've read through the 18 pages but obviously missed the bit that says what you will expect in terms of power & torque from these - can't decide whether to stay N/A or the Turbo route with an engine change ;)

Junks ! - is that you Phil ?

If so - and you have a VX now (or part of one !) - it was only June that I turned up at Brands with mine and you said "where's the proper car" !! Cheeky bugger !! :D

Anyway - I am sure Thorney states somewhere in here that they achieved 215 bhp with a 85% finished map - not sure what torque or at what revs though.
What you want is a supercharged N/A my man !! :P

What on earth happened to that engine, I was told the bottom end was VERY strong.

Any Idea what caused these problems?
:o
Was it one of the mods or a one off bad unit, as I have not heard of any other people having
these sorts of problems.

No idea to be honest. Ian buzzed it at Hockenheim last year which seemed to have destroyed the top end with 3 broken rockers but now it appears that we have both ring and bore wear and excessive oil useage. All this occured before we even bolted the TB kit on so its pita really, I should've picked one of the race cars to put the first kit on and we'd be fine now. Sorry to hear about the bottom end, we're currently looking for 2 complete VX NA engines and 1 VXT engine to use as spares and all the ones we've seen have been nails and seeing as the TB car will be a demo car for the TB's I figured a new engine was justified (£2k though :( ) If anyone else has any engines I'd be keen to hear, looking for gearboxes too.....race cars tend to absorb spares.

Ring and bore wear is often associated with bore wash caused by over fuelling?

No its not bore wash and the engine (now we've had it apart) really does show signs of a very hard life, in retrospect it was a poor choice of engine to do the first conversion with but c'est la vie.New short engine will be here next week, mated back to a rebuilt top end, the TB kit re-installed and back to Webcon for final mapping. TMS is now up to 4 full time techies so we can shorten our lead time and get more time on development.

Rubbers engine has had a 'very hard life'?

Joking aside....have you decided which figures will be released when? Obviously we would all be interested in the figures on Ians car....but given it already it has a stage 3 it would be a bit misleading for all of us peeps on stage 2(or 2+) that are looking at this option as`opposed to going to the cammy stage 3....

Good to hear TMS is going well thumbsup

Hope you and the family are keeping as well too thumbsup

Yep, hard life appears to = track/hard driving miles, followed by long lay up then hard track work = wear. :( Seeing as the numbers generated are from his car (which is clearly knackered) they do look to be very conservative but agree that the gains quoted will be based on both kinds of kit (one on stock car and one with stage 3). Currently (on a worn engine) we're peaking 215bhp, but still anticiapating a 35bhp gain just from the kit on its own.

215 bhp sounds very promising thumbsup I'm sure quite a few people are looking forward to trying them out :P
